We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Supplier Development Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships with our suppliers, ensuring their adherence to quality standards, and driving continuous improvement within our supply chain. The ideal candidate has a strong background in engineering, excellent problem-solving skills, and a proven track record of effectively communicating and collaborating with internal and external partners.
Partner with the global Procurement teams to identify new strategic supplier partnership.
Develop and implement development projects/plans with strategic partners by collaborating with Supplier Quality, Global Procurement, and site-based Supply Chain to enable continued growth.
Conduct formal supplier assessments to identify gaps between the current capabilities and future growth. Assessments must include technical capabilities, capital growth requirements, and labor capacity requirements.
Collaborate with suppliers on long term countermeasures that will enable balanced growth. Countermeasures to include but aren't limited to kaizen's, training programs, capital planning programs, manufacturing process improvement/development, improving quality control measures, improving planning systems, improving inventory management, improving product tracking/shipping.
Coordinate with the strategic partner in crafting timelines, achievements, and measurable success criteria that demonstrates the capacity improvements required by Thermo Fisher.
Hold strategic partners accountable via project and program work, Root Cause Counter Measures (RCCM), action trackers, and regular updates to management. Role will be responsible to highlight RCCM needs when supplier achievements are not met.
Able to effectively connect with leadership at multiple levels in the organization, have a big-picture strategic mentality, handle multiple priorities, influence, and address sophisticated problems.
Contribute to supplier volume, new product introduction and supplier go / no-go decisions.
Participate in quality assessment process.
Contributor to supplier utilization decisions such as increase, sustain, or reject suppliers.
Able to influence without authority.
Coordinate supplier improvement activities with the Global Supplier Quality organization when required for supplier capacity increases.
Contribute to identification of potential supplier productivity initiatives via Design For X activities.
50% travel expected.
Minimum Requirements:
Education, Experience
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronic, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering preferred.
5+ years proven track record in manufacturing, quality, design, or engineering.
Demonstrated experience managing supply chain issues is required. Specific experience enabling suppliers to build and ramp capabilities is highly desired.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes related to machining, ceramics, and brazed assemblies.
Proven understanding of Quality Systems (QS), Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) processes and utilization.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills with the ability to lead and drive projects to completion with minimal direction.
Able to build robust relationships with Commodity Managers, NPI Buyers, Supplier Quality Engineers, Supply Chain Engineers, Project Managers, Quality Engineers, Design/Operations Engineers, manufacturing, and suppliers.
Capability to support and motivate change in the extended team.
Strong business approach which enables communication with all levels of management regarding priorities and business impact.
Has implemented/used/applied Value Engineering, Lean Systems, Six Sigma, Agile principles, and a proven problem solver.
