Job Summary: The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Trainee will be responsible for successfully completing a CMA training program with a Wellstar academic partner or through a Wellstar training program. The CMA Trainee will receive training through classroom (virtual and/or in person) and clinical sessions that will develop skills in communication, interpersonal skills, infection control, safety, preparing patients for examinations, assisting during treatments, and coordinating tests and follow-up care. Under the direction and supervision of a licensed nurse, or certified medical assistant, the CMA Trainee role is designed to provide an experiential learning opportunity for students to evolve towards skilled practice through the acquisition of basic clinical skills and advancing their knowledge related to patient care. Upon successful completion of this program, the CMA Trainee will be prepared to successfully pass a certification exam through an approved medical assisting credentialing body. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: - Responsible for attending required classes, completing course work in a timely manner and remaining engaged for duration of the CMA Trainee program. Note: Throughout the duration of the course, scope of duties while working in the clinic does NOT include medication administration and/or participation in the medication validation or process. Scope is also restricted as it relates to the performance of any invasive procedure as defined as a medical procedure that invades (enters) the body, usually by cutting or puncturing the skin or by inserting instruments into the body. The only exception would be point of care testing specimen collection via capillary blood, pharyngeal and nasal swab methods, subject to successful completion of Initial Competency Assessment (ICA).
