As Senior Manufacturing Support at Caterpillar Inc., you will directly support Manufacturing Engineers and Assembly Leaders on the plant floor in efforts of continuous improvement through design and documentation layout, tooling, fixtures, handling systems, safety, and ergonomics and other duties as assigned.

In this role you may be expected to:

  • Perform changes and updates to standard work schedules and other relevant assembly procedures based on engineering input.
  • Follow and utilizes Caterpillar Production System principles of 5S, Continuous Improvement Idea Reporting, Waste Elimination, and Standard Work.
  • Use Engineering prints and release notices to develop production operation sequence and documents in assembly routing system.
  • Provide tooling support to the line as needed including battery repair, DC electric and air-torque tooling, preventative maintenance tools, and tooling calibration.
  • Develop final work orders which detail processing steps and procedures, identified component parts, specifies technical aspects of part installation or application and identifies tooling or fixtures required for production.
  • Create supporting documentation required for both capital and expense funds requests.
  • Develop layouts using CAD system and identifies material locations.
  • Download tool data and provides analyzed torque data to Certification Team and creates and maintains data files on torque tools specified by Certification Team.
  • Utilize systems such as SAP, 2D/3D modeling, and Team Center.
  • Use cross-functional communication to complete tasks.
  • Provide summaries to leadership.
Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 2 years of related experience in a manufacturing facility OR relevant 2-year degree.
    • Current enrollment in an accredited 4-year college degree program at a junior level status is considered equivalent to a 2-year degree.
  • Must have advanced proficiency (can train others) in Microsoft Outlook, Excel PowerPoint, and Word.
Physical Requirements (with or without reasonable accommodation):
  • Willing and able to sit/stand for prolonged periods
  • Willing and able to perform repetitive operations
  • Willing and able to lift up to 35 lbs
Top candidates will also have:
  • Relevant 4-year degree OR equivalent years of related experience in manufacturing facility.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of 6 sigma/lean manufacturing principles.
  • Auto CAD experience
  • Experience leading a cross functional team
  • Demonstrated ability to manage own work tasks
  • Familiarity with complex product structures
  • Experience writing visual work instructions
  • Experience with 3D software
  • Experience with conducting time studies
  • Experience with line balancing and implementation of process changes
  • Operations/Industrial planning experience
  • Ability to effectively communicate within a cross functional group
  • Advanced Computer and Caterpillar Systems Knowledge
  • Understanding of the Assembly Planning Systems
  • SAP Experience
Additional Information:
  • Shift: 1st Shift
  • Work location: Athens, GA
  • Hours: M-Th 6 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  • Although uncommon, work hours may be changed or mandatory overtime scheduled as business needs require.
  • Entry pay is $25.96/hour.
