Job Description Summary

The Adjunct Instructor - Career Services is responsible for delivering both virtual and in-person employment advising to students and community members. This includes resume reviews, mock interviews, job search assistance, and other career readiness activities. The advisor will collaborate with the Full-Time Career Services Advisor to develop and present career-related content through seminars and workshops. Additionally, the role involves supporting curriculum development, facilitating learning, and maintaining strong connections with students, employers, and the broader community.



Job Description


Essential Functions and Responsibilities




The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully to be qualified for the position. Other duties may be required and assigned.




Career Advising - Conduct virtual and in-person advising appointments with students and community members, providing support with resume reviews, job search strategies, and interview preparation.



Curriculum Development Support - Collaborate with the Career Services team to develop, update, and assess career development materials that meet employer expectations and institutional standards. Ensure content is relevant, competency-based, and up-to-date.



Student Employment Document Feedback - Provide written and verbal feedback to instructors on the status and quality of students' employment-related documents, such as resumes and cover letters, to help ensure students are prepared for job opportunities.



Handshake Platform Support - Assist and promote the use of the Handshake job posting platform to students, helping them navigate the system, apply for jobs, and connect with potential employers.



Collaboration and Events - Work with the Career Services team to support career-related workshops, seminars, and events aimed at improving student employability and career readiness.



Student Support - Provide personalized guidance to students, helping them achieve their career goals and ensuring they are prepared for job market success.



Record Keeping - Maintain accurate records of advising appointments and document relevant data, including student progress, feedback, and outcomes.



Minimum Qualifications




Education and/or Experience Requirements:


  • Bachelor's degree in a related field required; Master's degree preferred.

  • Minimum of two years of relevant occupational experience, with at least one year within the past five years. Preference given to candidates with four years of occupational experience. Teaching experience may substitute for occupational experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and facilitate career education and employment advising programs, including curriculum development.

  • Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including days, evenings, and weekends, and travel within the district. (Candidate will provide primarily virtual coverage)

  • Ability to meet Faculty Quality Assurance System requirements and maintain any necessary licensure or certification for program accreditation.






Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements:



  • Proficiency in utilizing learning management systems.

  • Strong verbal communication skills.

  • Adapt quickly to changing demands, assignments, and circumstances to meet student needs.

  • Communicate effectively and professionally with various audiences.

  • Engage in continuous improvement in the quality of instruction by embracing innovative methodologies, techniques, and delivery methods.

  • Prior to hiring, a background check including criminal record history will be conducted. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position.

Physical Requirements



  • Sitting: This role requires extended periods of sitting while performing tasks and utilizing computer systems.

  • Mobility: While much of the work is desk-based, occasional mobility may be necessary for attending meetings, office tours, or events within the workplace.

  • Lifting and Carrying: The role requires occasional/continuous lifting and carrying of light to moderate items (5-10 Pounds).

  • Climbing: Capability to climb stairs,

  • Fine Motor Skills: This role may need precise hand movements or manual dexterity for activities such as writing on a whiteboard, demonstrating experiments, or using instructional technology like computers.

  • Repetitive Motions: Capacity to perform repetitive motions, such as typing, without discomfort or injury.

  • Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills are essential for interacting with employees, candidates, and stakeholders, both in-person and through electronic means.

  • Travel: Instructor position may require off-site teaching, fieldwork, or travel for professional development.

  • Driving: Valid driver's license and ability to operate a vehicle, if driving is a requirement of the position.

  • Other: Depending on the specific requirements of the instructional role (e.g., teaching specialized physical education courses, conducting outdoor education), additional physical requirements may need to be specified.





Work Environment


  • The candidate will primarily work virtually however there could be occasional events/appointments for the candidate to attend.







Work environment may change based upon college needs.

Additional Information



Hourly pay rate: $45.00


Pay is based on a multitude of factors, including experience, qualifications, education, relevant certifications, internal equity, and market data.

Adjunct instructors are hired on a per course basis. The total hours for an adjunct instructor range from approximately 3 hours per week to no more than 8 hours per week. Hours vary and can include both day, evening, and weekend classes. Courses are taught in traditional classroom and alternative delivery formats.
