I&E Controls Designer at SYNC AUTOMATION

Sync Automation is hiring an I&E Controls Designer to perform the design/drafting efforts required to successfully meet the scope of work deliverables for electrical, instrumentation, and control system projects across multiple industries.

As a I&E Controls Designer, you will be responsible for:
Collaborate with team members for initial design and drawing requirements. Conduct field trips to client facilities to gather required information. Utilize AutoCAD Electrical software. Create detailed design packages including but are not limited to the following drawings:
Control panel layout and wiring schematics Bill of Materials Junction box / Marshalling panel layout and wiring Loop sheets Instrument location plans Instrument installation details Motor control schematics One-line diagrams Cable tray design and installation Cable routing Cable schedules Network architecture P&IDs
Create and maintain AutoCAD libraries of commonly used components. Revise existing client supplied drawings while following their revision and drafting standards. Create As-Built drawing packages of existing panels for modifications. Communicate with panel shop for proper fabrication of systems. Conferring with clients to determine scopes of work and interact with clients on technical matters. Perform independent QA/QC of drawing deliverables. Review and evaluate both company and vendor electrical designs for quality, accuracy, and compliance with relevant codes and standards.

Education:
Associate degree in drafting, design or engineering technology or 4 years of equivalent experience in the design of electrical and controls systems

We are looking for someone with:
Must have 5 years (minimum) of experience in engineering drafting and electrical design practices in addition to the education requirements. Experience in design of mid to large instrument projects. Experience in 480-volt power distribution systems, lighting, schematic wiring diagrams, cable/raceway sizing, lightning protection and grounding. Knowledge and ability to apply UL508A Panel Design Standards AutoCAD software, AutoCAD Electrical experience

Experience in these areas are a plus:
Practical field experience with the design and installation of various process instruments, PLCs, and controls systems preferred. Previous panel fabrication building, PLC and DCS experience a plus.

Skills and Abilities:
Working knowledge of industry recognized and generally accepted standards, codes, and practices related to instrumentation and electrical design. Ability to size wire, conduit, and overcurrent protection for both lighting and power applications. Ability to perform voltage drop calculations. Ability to route conduit and cable tray. Ability to calculate tray and conduit fill. Ability to create accurate electrical installation documents from the information found on vendor equipment drawings. Ability to accurately estimate completion of assigned tasks. Ability to develop equipment specifications for 480VAC equipment such as, motor control centers, variable frequency drivers, induction and synchronous motors, load center unit substations, etc. with engineering review and approval.
