ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY
SUMMARY : Cu rrently searching for three (3) Part-Time Research Assistants to work in the Chemistry & Biochemistry Department, College of Science, under the supervision of Dr. Alex John, Principal Investigator.

SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU WILL GET TO DO (this is just a small sampling of work variety):
The research assistant will perform experimental investigations to evaluate the potential of vanadium catalysts in the oxidative cleavage of lignin model compounds. Specifically, the research assistant will synthesize vanadium complexes supported over sterically and electronically modulated ligands. The synthesized vanadium complexes would then be evaluated for their effectiveness in catalyzing the oxidative cleavage reaction. The ligands and vanadium complexes synthesized would be characterized by a variety of techniques like NMR spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, X-ray crystallography etc. The Research assistant would be responsible for literature search, synthesis, and characterization etc. of the compounds involved as well as analysis, documentation, reporting and presentation of the research findings.
MINIMUM
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Cal Poly Pomona Undergraduate (sophomore or junior) with experience in organic synthesis (CHM 3150 or equivalent). Familiarity interpreting NMR and IR spectra, documenting procedures & characterization data.
