Job Description Summary


The Senior Associate Director, Wharton CFR position is a frontline fundraiser who serves as a leader for the execution of major- and principal-level corporate fundraising at Wharton and Penn. The role's primary responsibility is to manage a portfolio of 75+ corporate and foundation prospects across the continental U.S., engaging via video-conference software, in-person meetings and events. The Senior Associate Director's portfolio will be made up of companies within three industry sectors that are key to Wharton's success: Tech and Fintech; Consulting, and Finance. As important, the Senior Associate Director will serve as the primary advisor for all Wharton stakeholders seeking support from companies in these sectors, and will serve as a senior advisor to all Wharton research centers seeking to create plans for corporate sponsorship. To maximize lead development for corporate fundraising, the Senior Associate Director will collaborate with colleagues in Wharton external affairs, including major gifts, annual fund and alumni relations; as well as with colleagues outside external affairs, including Wharton Executive Education and MBA Career Management. The position will partner with the Senior Director of CFR to implement a strategy for identification, solicitation and stewardship of $1M+ commitments from companies--irrespective of industry sector--that are committed to supporting Wharton. To ensure success of this and all corporate and foundation fundraising, the position will work closely with the Central DAR and Wharton External Affairs Data teams to evaluate and improve the “organization gift/grant” functionality of the Compass database system.




Job Description





Responsibilities include:


- Lead fundraising and stewardship from among a portfolio of 75+ corporations in the consulting, technology, finance and fintech sectors. Strive for annual closures and assists totaling >$2M, contributing to an annual External Affairs fundraising goal of $100+ million.

- Lead strategic collaboration with WHEA/DAR Individual Gift Officers & Alumni Relations, Wharton Executive Education, and MBA Career Management--including creation of relevant training to support the collaboration--to stimulate new business leads that result in new gifts and other beneficial relationships for the school.

- Lead strategic advising for faculty research centers and initiatives--including creation of relevant training--on creation of sponsorship initiatives, based on recently published Wharton guidelines for gifts and grants.

- Serve as main partner for all development officers at WHEA seeking to translate their needs for improvement of Compass to aid its use for maximizing corporate and foundation gifts and grants.

- Partner with Senior Director, CFR on the implementation of a new strategy for $1M+ gifts and grants from companies in all sectors, and in partnership with the Wharton Dean's Office.

Bachelor's degree plus 5-7 years professional experience, including experience in a nonprofit fundraising setting. Preference for candidates with experience working with corporate and foundation funders. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to function with high degree of independence with an assigned group of prospects, yet interact with colleagues in a centralized framework and contribute to a total team effort. Must be able to interact comfortably with faculty, administrators and CEO level contacts. Knowledge of corporations and/or management education desirable. Ability to travel up to twenty percent.
