Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

Campus Health (CH) is a multi-specialty ambulatory college health clinic providing quality, and affordable health care for eligible students and spouses. Annually, CH has more than 80,000 patient encounters, which includes Primary Care and Women's Health as well as specialty clinics in sports medicine, orthopedics, gynecology, physical therapy, counseling and psychological services, travel clinic and allergy clinic. Weekend acute care is provided from 8-5 PM. On site ancillary services include pharmacy, OTC pharmacy, Student Stores pharmacy, medical laboratory, and radiology.


Campus Health has been continuously accredited since 1986 by the Joint Commission of Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. All personnel are trained in the concepts and principles of Performance Improvement and serve as team members and leaders in shaping and defining the organization as it strives to provide quality and safe care.


Campus Health collaborates with Student Wellness and Campus Recreation and other Student Affairs partners to provide education and outreach to assist in keeping the campus population healthy.


Education and research comprise another important function of CH. CH provides clinical rotations and practicums for students in the School of Education, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Social Work and Public Health, Department of Medical Technology, Physical Therapy, Occupational Health and Radiology. In addition, CH serves as a research site for a number of faculty and graduate student grants and contracts, where CH staff participates with the principal investigators across a variety of medical specialties.


Position Summary:


Appointment Duration/Funding Contingency: This position is contingent upon the continuing availability of funds from sources other than continuing State budget funds or permanent trust funds. This position currently has sufficient funding for two years.



Under the direction of the Director of Sports medicine and supervision directly by the Associate Director of Sports medicine, the staff athletic trainer for women's tennis is responsible for the day to day medical coverage of student-athletes in the collegiate setting. The ideal candidate will have experience with collegiate or professional tennis utilizing skills for injury prevention, emergency care, rehabilitation, human movement science, corrective exercise, and be able to play an active role in providing health care and athletic training services for student-athletes. Provide standard immediate care procedures used in emergency situations; clinical evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation and reconditioning. Employ appropriate assessment outcomes measures to determine effectiveness of rehab program; determines appropriate return to play of student-athletes and active population. Management of head injuries and concussions; referral to appropriate medical professionals to ensure optimal level of care; all duties and responsibilities performed under the supervision of a directing physician. Provides mentorship for immersion athletic training students as well as observers and other students. Also works collaboratively with the Sports Medicine Team as well as Sports Performance team and coaching staff to ensure service excellence for all customers of the athletic training program.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities associated with the delivery and/or management of student support functions, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and at least 1 year of relevant experience in substitution.


Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

- Experience with collegiate or professional tennis is required.


- Current athletic training certification by the Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer (BOC).


- Current North Carolina Athletic Training License or ability to obtain a North Carolina Athletic Training License under the provisions of the North Carolina Board of Athletic Training


Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

- Masters preferred.


- A minimum of (5) years' experience as a BOC Certified Athletic Trainer is preferred.


- Experience with exercise science, load management, exercise prescription programming and periodization preferred as well.


- License or certification in strength and conditioning or exercise science (CSCS, PES) is preferred.


Campus Security Authority Responsibilities:


This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
