Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The Department of Cell Biology and Physiology (CBP) is a broad and interdisciplinary basic science department in the School of Medicine at UNC-CH. As a top-ranked, nationally recognized leader in basic science research, our faculty and staff are engaged in innovative and cutting-edge research in the areas of neuroscience, cardiovascular biology, cellular cytoskeleton, cell motility and imaging. Position Summary:

The Department of Cell Biology and Physiology is seeking to fill a Research Associate and Senior Laboratory Manager position. This position will oversee and manage the day-to-day laboratory operations for the Caron lab, a dynamic and growing team of scientists in the Department of Cell Biology and Physiology. This position will also be responsible for onboarding and training new lab members. This position will independently oversee the day-to-day lab operations, including ordering supplies and ensuring the laboratory is fully stocked with needed supplies, performing equipment care and maintenance, overseeing the training and onboarding of all lab personnel, and managing compliance with Lab Safety and to Environmental Health and Science protocols. This position will also serve as the Lab Animal Coordinator and will oversee mouse colony management and write IACUC protocols. This position will also independently plan and conduct molecular biology techniques for cloning of vectors and immunohistochemistry techniques for studying the role of different peptides in the lymphatics. This position will also independently plan and conduct experiment using animal models, including but not limited to injections, oral gavage, behavioral phenotyping, imaging, necropsy and tissue collection. Using the data generated and collected from these experiments, this position will then perform analyses and summarize data contributing to publications in peer reviewed journals and articles.


Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.


Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Experience managing lab safety protocols and lab safety plan, onboarding and training new lab members. Experience conducting independent experiments generating data for peer reviewed publications.


Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Prefer candidates with experience writing IACUC protocols and serving as Lab Animal Coordinator.
