The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR) oversees, develops, supports, and grows UNC-Chapel Hill's $1 billion research enterprise. The offices reporting to the OVCR set strategic priorities for research, manage proposals and awards, provide research infrastructure, identify funding opportunities, develop research teams and partnerships, oversee regulatory compliance, and communicate the impact and value of the University's research enterprise. The OVCR enables research endeavors for faculty, students, and scholars; encourages interdisciplinary research collaboration across campus; and fosters expansion and diversification of the University's sponsored research portfolio by collaborating with foundations, federal agencies, corporations, and the state and federal governments. The Vice Chancellor for Research also oversees multiple pan-University, multidisciplinary research centers and institutes.
The Human Resources Specialist works as part of a highly-collaborative HR Service Center team to provide human resources management services to multiple client units in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research division.
This position ensures that human resources activities within the assigned units are completed in a timely, effective, and efficient manner while complying with University, State, and Federal guidelines. This position works directly with directors and business managers and keeps them apprised of any issues that may affect their office, center, or institute.
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
It is necessary for the candidate to demonstrate the following:
* Previous human resources experience, including client consultation, recruitment, hiring, and position classification.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Strong customer service skills.
* Strong organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
* Ability to perform work with a high degree of autonomy, self-motivation, accuracy, efficiency, timeliness, and discretion.
* Human resources experience in a university setting.
* Previous experience with UNC Chapel Hill HR systems (e.g., ConnectCarolina, PeopleAdmin, Infoporte, RASR, etc.).
* Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification.
