Job Description
Under general supervision assists in the administrative and technical activities of the Security Department. Assists in coordinating the daily activities of assigned staff within the Security Department; orients and trains new staff, provides supervision of staff, quality assurance, program management, and fiscal oversight. Maintains a safe and secure environment for employees, patients, physicians and visitors. Protects persons and property by preventing fires, thefts, assaults, injuries and acts of vandalism through the enforcement of departmental rules and regulations.

Located in Largo in the heart of Prince George's County, our new state-of-the-art regional medical center (UM Capital Region Medical Center) will provide improved access to primary and ambulatory care services, and serve as a tertiary care center for critically ill patients. In addition, our new space will allow us to expand our offerings as a community partner to help improve the health status of Prince George's County residents.


Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: To qualify for the position, the candidate must obtain high school diploma or equivalent. Must be 21 years of age. One year of Law Enforcement or Healthcare Security strongly preferred. One-year supervisory experience required.



CONDITIONS: The employee will remain within this job category for probationary period of six months. With a satisfactory criteria-based performance evaluation, the employee will advance to a regular status employee. If the evaluation is not satisfactory, the employee will be terminated.



SKILLS & ABILITIES: Ability to ensure the confidentiality and rights of patients and confidentiality of health system and departmental documents required



LANGUAGE SKILLS: The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form with patients, physicians, health system officials, other health system personnel and the general public is essential.



MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to perform basic math functions.



REASONING ABILITY: Ability to prioritize work responsibilities; think and act independently with limited supervision.



CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:



  • Basic Training Certification by the International Association for Health care Security and Safety (IAHSS) must be achieved within two years from the date of hire. Employees are required to attend certification training classes when scheduled by the Manager, Security.

  • Senior Membership in the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) must be achieved within one year from date of hire.

  • Must attend and receive annual certification training in Non-violence Crisis Intervention as scheduled by the Manager, Security.

  • Valid State of Maryland Driver's license and proof of insurance required.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Works in all areas of hospital, with exposure to combative patients, fluctuating temperatures, and loud noise. Requires walking and standing approximately 70% of the time, requires sitting approximately 30% of the time. Requires handling combative patients, weighing in excess of 100 lbs.; requires pushing, pulling and lifting equipment and supplies weighing up to 100 lbs., approximately 30% of the time. Requires visual acuity and manual dexterity to operate tools and equipment. Potential for exposure to communicable diseases and/or blood and body substances and hazardous materials requiring the observance of Standard Precautions and safe handling practices.
