Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic


Department: Maintenance


Reports to: Maintenance Superintendents



SUMMARY


Repairs and maintains machinery and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems and production machines and equipment by performing the following duties.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned


Identifies tools needed for the job.

Diagnose problems and causes.

Communicates with others (site and off-site), regarding status of equipment, parts availability and schedule of future repairs.

Willingness to learn new and old equipment.

Cleans up after the job is complete.

Works in a safe and environmentally aware manner.

Must be self-motivated, flexible and eager to learn.

Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.

Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.

Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.

Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.

Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments.

Repairs or replaces defective parts.

Installs special functional and structural parts in devices.

Lubricates and cleans parts.

Starts devices to test their performance.

Sets up and operate drill press, grinder and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts.

Initiates purchase order for parts.

Completes all required documents per day.



SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES


Show leadership to other mechanics and lube techs. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organizations' policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning and directing work to meet the demand of production; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.



QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE


Associate's degree (A.A.) and one year related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience totaling three years. Computer skills are necessary in order to conduct research and order parts.



LANGUAGE SKILLS


Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of employees of organization.



MATHEMATICAL SKILLS


Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.



REASONING ABILITY


Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations.
