Hours: Full-time, 40-hours/week

Position Summary

The Federal Electronic Health Records (FEHRM) Communications Specialist position will support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Electronic Health Record Modernization (EHRM) program, providing support to other Units and Offices within the VA to ensure the success of the program's mission. The performance of the FEHRM Communications Support Specialist position is key to RavenTek's performance on the EHRM contract, and therefore RavenTek's mission to support the VA.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop briefings, templates, talking points, and materials to enhance the communications activities of the organization.
  • Write talking points and manage speaking engagement process.
  • Assist with writing and editing content and act as a reviewer of artifacts to ensure alignment with quality standards and FEHRM messaging.
  • Capture photos and video content at engagements and events, provide basic video editing, and help lead multimedia strategy.
  • Provide support to FEHRM team activities to enhance efficiency of processes, the clarity of communications, and delivery of quality content.
  • Measure and evaluate success of communications strategies.
  • Collaborate with a blended team of communications and government affairs support staff to ensure alignment in messaging across audiences and artifacts.
  • Assist subject matter experts in translating complex topics into clear, approachable language that resonates with stakeholders.
  • Capture and edit photography using client provided camera.
  • Capture audio content for use in various multimedia.
  • Provide Monthly Status Report (MSR) to RavenTek Program Manager by deadline provided.
  • Enter actual time worked, once complete, at the end of the day, or no later than 10:00 a.m. the following workday, and submit timesheets at the end of each pay period.
  • Monitor and respond to RavenTek email a minimum of 3 times per week.
  • Complete required compliance training as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Critical Skills

  • Experience managing and/or writing about Information Technology related projects.
  • Must be well-versed in managing a project through the life cycle from ideation to execution.
  • Must have experience tracking and reporting schedule and performance progress and able to identify and mitigate risks.
  • Must have significant experience delivering a variety of communication tactics and strategies.
  • Must be a strong writer in a variety of communication tactics (e.g., talking points, social media posts, video scripts, etc.) with above-average AP editing skills.
  • Must be able to travel occasionally to support clients at conferences.
  • Experience with single-camera video capture and basic video editing using Adobe Creative Cloud software.
  • Must have the ability to work both independently and under supervision.

Education & Work Experience

  • 10+ years of professional work experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Systems, Business, or related scientific/technical discipline, or 8 years of additional relevant experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • Experience with Electronic Health Records is preferred.
  • Experience with the VA is preferred.

Work Environment

Employee will be working indoors in an office environment. Potential moderate temperature fluctuations. Typical indoor and computer related noise level, and typical office, paper, and equipment related dust. Exposure to video display terminals occurs on a regular basis.


Physical Demands

Employee needs to be able to sit at a workstation for extended periods; use hand(s) to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk, see and hear. Requires the ability to work on desktop or laptop computer for extended periods of time. Employee may be required to occasionally lift and/or move moderate amounts of weight, typically less than 20 pounds. Regular and predictable attendance is essential.
