Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:

The purpose of the Surveying Crew Chief, Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) position is to support the surveying component of the Geospatial Sciences Group in all aspects of collecting field survey data, record research, CAD finalization, and delivery of required project information that meets or exceeds the expectations of our clients.

Primary Responsibilities (others may be included):


  • Support and follow company policies and procedures

  • Participate in regularly-scheduled meetings

  • Help create a positive work environment

  • Respond promptly to all communications

  • Collect field survey data at an adequate speed (specific to each project and task)

  • Produce geospatial data that meets the clients’ specifications and meets quality standards

  • Assemble all instruments and measuring devices needed to complete various types of survey work assignments

  • Clear obstacles such as vegetation or snow that may interfere with a clear line of site to conduct surveying

  • Function as a rod-person or instrument-person

  • Draft the initial field drawing using AutoCAD or a related software package

  • Download daily field data from data collector unit to laptop

  • Provide positive client/public relations as individuals are encountered in the field

  • Obtain additional direction, guidance and support as required to complete assigned tasks

  • Work with other staff in a professional manner

  • Bring issues, whether project, staff, or equipment related, to the attention of management

  • Approach assignments with a “can do” attitude

  • Complete timesheets on-time and as directed

  • Complete expense reports on-time and as directed

  • Complete corporate paperwork

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

What you bring to our firm:


  • High School Diploma with Valid Driver's License. Solid knowledge of AutoCAD

  • Must have PLS certification or in the process of obtaining the certification.

  • Experience and/or solid understanding of complex survey technical requirements from clients and agencies such as PennDOT, FAA, etc.

  • Must have knowledge and experience in performing survey work using GPS receivers and methods, robotic total stations, levels, etc.

  • Experience in geodetic and photo control surveys, property boundary surveys, deed research, bathymetric surveys, and general collection of detail planimetric and terrain data

  • Experience and/or strong desire to use modern survey equipment such as sUAS, terrestrial scanners, echo-sounders and related bathymetric survey equipment

  • Must be able to travel for multiple days when necessary

  • Learn quickly while working in a physically demanding environment

  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:


  • Bachelors or Associates degree with specialized vocation training in survey, engineering, or CAD technology

  • At least five years of experience in the field and office

Physical Requirements:


  • Must be capable of physical work that will include carrying survey equipment through potentially difficult terrain

  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions and temperatures

  • Must be able to drive survey trucks, all-terrain utility vehicles, and at times pull a trailer with an ATV or small boat on-board the trailer.
