Our team is helping ensure the safety of nuclear power and the nuclear fuel cycle at a time when the country and world are considering increasing nuclear power's role in meeting energy needs while helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Objectives of this Role:
Work with geologists, geophysicists, and geotechnical engineers to conduct probabilistic seismic hazard assessments for critical facilities (especially commercial nuclear) at sites both within the U.S. and abroad.
Evaluate technical information regarding seismic sources from earthquake records, paleoseismology, structural geology, and neotectonics.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to integrate probabilistic seismic hazard findings into engineering and risk assessment.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
Utilize state-of-the-art software and methodologies to develop seismic source and ground motion models and to assess the uncertainties associated with these models.
Stay abreast of the latest developments in seismology, earthquake engineering, and hazard analysis, and incorporate new methodologies into project work.
Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences, conveying complex concepts in an accessible manner.
Provide expert consultation to clients, regulatory authorities, and internal teams on seismic hazard assessments.
Participate in business development efforts.
Requirements:
Requires a PhD in Seismology, Geophysics, or related field
0 years: Proven experience in probabilistic seismic hazard analysis, with a focus on seismic source models, including active faults and earthquake records.
Proficiency in software tools such as OpenQuake, SeisRiskIII, and other industry-standard applications.
Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or similar. A track record of publications and contributions to the advancement of seismological research is h
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences.
Open and willing to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams and managing projects independently.
Due to the nature of the contract, candidates must have US Citizenship or have held US Permanent Residency (non-U.S. citizen national, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) for at least 5 years.
A valid/clear driver's license is required.
