Educational and Experience Requirement:

Associates degree in library or information science, or other related field. Bachelor degree preferred. Two years relevant experience in a related field. A combination of education, experience, and training that would produce the required knowledge and abilities could be considered.



Must be a current Sam Houston State University employee in order to be considered for this position.


Nature & Purpose of Position:

Performs specialized duties relating to digital projects and preservation for the Newton Gresham Library Digital Initiatives Unit.


Primary Responsibilities:

Organizes and maintains digitized materials and the digital collection inventory. Assists with acquisition and maintenance of born-digital collections. Implements Newton Gresham Library (NGL) digital preservation policy. Performs regular fixity checks to ensure integrity of digital files. Creates metadata and prepares digital objects for long-term preservation. Assists with administrative tasks in the content management system (CONTENTdm). Contributes to revisions in workflow documentation and procedural guidelines. Reviews digital materials to ensure accessibility standards are met. Assists in creating virtual exhibits highlighting digital collection materials. Performs other related duties as assigned.


Other Specifications:

Experience using Microsoft Office, Microsoft 365, and Adobe software programs, such as Excel, Teams, Acrobat, and Photoshop. Ability to manage multiple on-going tasks and be self-motivated. Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, analytical skills, and an ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical users.



Preferred:
Experience using content management and preservation software, such as CONTENTdm, Archivematica, DuraCloud, MD5summer, etc. Knowledge of digital preservation theory, standards, and best practices. Familiarity with metadata standards relevant to digital preservation and content description such as PREMIS and Dublin Core and DACS, and use of controlled vocabularies.
Must be able to lift and carry boxes up to 50lbs; load and push book trucks; shelve materials.



Up to 20% of this position, over the fiscal year during off-peak periods, may be performed remotely as determined by the supervisor.
