MassachusettsBay Community College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-trackfaculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Computer Science fromqualified applicants. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion forteaching and promoting success among a diverse student population. Facultymembers are responsible for developing educational and evaluation materialsconsistent with the philosophy and framework of MassBay Community College andthe Computer Science programs in accordance with the evolving needs of the STEMdivision. The faculty member will be responsible for maintaining expertise inrelated computer science and programming curricula, instruction, andassessment. The successful candidate will be able to teach across a range oftopics in the following areas of expertise currently offered: computer science,computer information systems, computer networking, cybersecurity, andinformation systems technology. The candidate will be experienced in andable to contribute to growth in one or more high priority areas of relevance for the ComputerScience Department, including data science, cloud computing (e.g., Internet ofThings/IoT and Edge Computing), and the use and optimization of artificial andvirtual reality (AR/VR) that coordinates with the manufacturing and automationfocuses in MassBay’s Engineering Department. The successful candidate will alsobe comfortable offering hands-on laboratory courses using current computertechnologies, software, and tools.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion for relevanttechnical field(s), collaborative work with diverse faculty and staff, and anability to positively influence, mentor, and work with diverse studentpopulations. More generally, thesuccessful applicant will demonstrate a solid understanding of a communitycollege's role in workforce development as well as successful transfer(through the creation of pathways) to higher institutions, shared governance,commitment to collaboration, and professional development. Knowledge and or understanding ofgrant funding is not necessary but would be advantageous. The successfulcandidate will assist the department in developing relevant future courses andteaching strategies for students with diverse backgrounds, interests, and learningstyles to support student recruitment and retention. Additionally, the successful candidate will demonstrate agood understanding of shared governance and a strong commitment tocollaboration and professional development. The ideal candidate will alsodemonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills. Overall, thesuccessful candidate will support the integrity of curricula, champion studentsuccess, and promote the mission of the College, including its transition to adesignation as a Hispanic-serving institution.

Classes may be held in the classroom at any of the three campuses(in-person), or in the hybrid or online environment upon approval aftercompleting training. However, the candidate must be able to teach in-person oncampus. Classes may also be held at regional high schools and regionalemployers. The candidate will have the opportunity to shape the curriculum,assist the Computer Science Department in the selection and use of appropriateeducational materials and technology in the classroom, and engage incommunity-based outreach activities as applied to computer science.

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Teach a full-time (15 credit hours per semester) schedule of Computer Science and related courses, which may include, but are not limited to, the list found online in the academic catalog;
  • Effectively communicate inter-personally orally and in writing;
  • Work and collaborate effectively with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff;
  • Prepare course syllabi and develop curricula to meet course and program requirements and student learning outcomes;
  • Serve as academic advisor to students;
  • Post and maintain a minimum of four (4) office hours per week;
  • Teach at Wellesley Hills, Framingham, or Ashland campuses as assigned; classes may also be held at regional high schools and regional employers and other off-site locations;
  • Participate in the improvement and development of academic programs and resources, designations, accreditation, articulation, and assessment of courses and programs;
  • Collaborate in selecting, recommending, creating, and preparing suitable instructional materials, lab experiences, simulations, and demonstrations that utilize a wide variety of teaching methods and modalities;
  • Assist the Computer Science Department and the Dean of STEM in identifying adjunct computer science, computer information systems, computer networking, cybersecurity, and information systems technology faculty, and work with them to make sure instructional objectives are being met;
  • Submit midterm and final grade reports, attendance records, early alerts, and other reports about assigned courses by required due dates;
  • Serve on College committees as elected or appointed;
  • Attend Program, Department, Division, and Committee meetings;
  • Engage in professional development activities to maintain excellence in teaching and learning;
  • Carry out other related duties as assigned by the Dean consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement;
  • Maintain a commitment to and understanding of the community college's mission as well as observing, supporting, and enforcing the College's regulations, policies, and programs; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or Computer Information Technology, or a relevant field from an accredited university;
  • Post-secondary teaching experience; and
  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Sensitivity and commitment to the goals of Affirmative Action and workforce diversity;
  • Experience working in a diverse environment;
  • Demonstrated commitment to working with underserved students;
  • Teaching experience at a community college;
  • Two years of teaching experience in credit-bearing courses at the college level;
  • Relevant industry experience in Computer Science or Computer Information Technology;
  • Current industry-recognized certification or licenses in programming, IT, networking, or security;
  • Demonstrated versatility in teaching a range of courses offered in computer science, cybersecurity, or computer information technology programs;
  • Experience in curricular planning and assessment as well as practices, technologies, and inclusive pedagogy to enhance student learning;
  • Familiarity with college accreditation standards;
  • Familiarity with the use of appropriate educational technology and equipment;
  • Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery systems;
  • Fluency and/or experience teaching in Spanish and/or Portuguese;
  • Experience with federal and/or state grants;
  • Interest in and familiarity with workforce development needs in the regional community; and
  • Experience with outreach activities with K-12 schools.

Additional Information:

Salary Range: $56,190- $62,837, in accordance with one'seducation and experience as dictated by the collective bargaining agreementclassification compensation structure.
