Job Description:

Under the administrative supervision of the Chief Medical Officer, works collaboratively with physicians and other Advanced Practice Professionals to perform diversified clinical duties which support the practice. Treats Oncology and Infusion patients in a courteous, respectful, and caring manner.

Organizational Responsibilities:

• Participates in staff meetings and cooperates with Physicians and coworkers to achieve departmental objectives
• Reports concerns and problems as they arise
• Ensures confidentiality of employee, legal, client/patient, budget and all organizational matters
• Keeps knowledge base current by attending educational programs
• Works closely with Oncology Medical Director, nursing, and multidisciplinary teams to provide comprehensive treatment plans including but not limited to chemotherapy monitoring and clearing for later doses of treatment, management of hypersensitivity reactions and others
• Works with referring providers, nursing and multidisciplinary teams to facilitate, monitor, generate orders for, and clear patients requiring non-chemotherapy infusions.

Record Utilization:

• Utilizes the current Electronic Medical Record to complete the documented Best Practice Workflows accurately
• Documents physical findings and patient response on appropriate worksheets and medical record
Care Coordination:
• Refers to Huggins' Care Coordinator(s) as appropriate
• Works collaboratively and cooperatively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team
• After appropriate diagnoses, arranges for stabilizing treatment and refers as appropriate to specialty Physicians; facilities, agencies, or resources in the community
• Communicates with referring specialists and continues to foster ongoing dialogue that ensures follow through for a therapeutic care plan
• Coordinates treatment with patient and family members

Direct Patient Care:

• Conducts high quality physical examinations, diagnostic testing, and appropriate therapeutic procedures in a professional manner that aligns with established standards of care and practice
• Formulates an appropriate plan of care based on physical exam, patient history and clinical findings, and collaborates with Physician(s) as necessary
• Communicates pertinent follow up information to patients according to established standards of care
• Recognizes and reports relevant information that requires urgent attention, and ensures follow through
• Implements orders including diagnostic tests, referrals, medications and follow up appointment needs
• Answers patient questions and clarifies concerns regarding medications, diet, activity, and health status
• Provides and promotes effective and compassionate care for patients and famiIies

Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the primary functions of the job, with or without a reasonable accommodation, using some combination of skills and abilities and possess the necessary physical requirements, with or without a reasonable accommodation, to safely perform the essential functions of the job.

• Minimal physical effort required with occasional light lifting to a maximum of 25 pounds; stooping; and pick, pinch, type, or otherwise work primarily with fingers
• Ability to effectively manage considerable mental stress
• Ability to express or exchange ideas by means of the spoken word
• Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication
• Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers and convey information in a clear, concise and accurate manner
• Familiarity with computer and other business machines

Qualifications:
Education: Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program
Experience: Experience working as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in Oncology required, certification preferred
License and Certification:


  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ANCC Certified if an APRN; NCCPA Certified if a PA
  • Licensed by the State of NH as an APRN or PA, and active unrestricted DEA Registration
  • ACLS certification preferred
