The Director, Engineering directs a team of engineering personnel assigned for the strategic development of products, while maintaining lead engineer for his/her own projects. Works in conjunction with Sales, Marketing, and other teams to drive strategic customer projects. Coordinates the daily activities of the group, recommends and implements standards and specifications relevant to the product area, provides strategic technical support to marketing in the evaluation of future the programs or products, and serves as the overall leader of the product group.
What you will do:
Work with appropriate marketing, sales and product engineering personnel to assess feasibility and advisability of new products, determine impact of new programs on engineering resources
Support marketing and field sales colleagues by providing and coordinating requests for quotes, application and design assistance and customer visits; provide customer or in-house training; provide technical data in support of division advertising brochures. Review, interpret and act on customer provided specifications and drawings and convert to divisional format; establish dimensional, mechanical and electrical performance criteria and parameters
Recommend and implement standards and specifications relevant to the product area, provide support to marketing in the evaluation of new programs or products, and serve as the overall leader for the product group
Apply basic engineering principles and analysis to the resolution of technical problems, perform development, design and analysis of new products; provide design validation testing for all new products; interpret design results and data; make independent judgments as to their validity
Confers with establishment personnel to implement BU operating procedures related to New Product Introduction, PDM & CAD system, engineering tools and the systems in which they operate
Develops models of alternate processing methods to test feasibility of new applications of system components and recommends implementation of improved procedures
Participates in meetings, seminars, and training sessions to stay apprised of new developments in field. Support the implementation of safety and ergonomics programs which are designed to reduce injuries and cut costs
Prepare and implement capital expense and major expense programs
Recommend and coordinate technical training programs for engineering personnel. provide product training for technicians, engineers, marketing, field sales personnel and customers.
Works with appropriate sales, marketing, and engineering personnel to assess feasibility and advisability of new products; determine impact of new programs on engineering resources Understand and communicate the competitive position of company products in all associated markets
Recognize, define, and communicate the technological improvements in the company's product line that will generate the greatest return Set the strategic plan/direction for the engineering group
Coordinate and manage the progress of key strategic product development programs Assume responsibility for all Agency compliance activities
Work in conjunction with senior management to develop budgets, set policy, develop strategy, structure the business, and meet corporate defined objectives
Effectively communicate and present strategic engineering vision to a variety of audiences, including senior, divisional, and group management
Confer with engineering personnel to clarify or resolve problems and develop design
Provide project engineers with supplemental technical guidance, continually improving documentation flow and development time Work with multiple manufacturing locations to assure support of NPI/NPD is provided from Development and Product Engineering
Oversight of concurrent engineering projects within the department, manage resources to insure accurate and on-time completion for all segments of the engineering team Work in conjunction with marketing and field sales coll
We are looking for:
Bachelor's degree in related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Minimum 3 years in a leadership/supervisory role
Minimum 3 years working for a manufacturer
Minimum 5 years working in a related field; experience with similar products a plus
Demonstrated success in a manufacturing environment
Strong organizational, collaboration, and communication skills required
Demonstrated success in talent development
Demonstrated success in project management
Ability to travel 15% of the time domestically and internationally
