Job Description:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES


Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:



  • Training, assisting and familiarizing on the aspects of set up including machine inspection, planer plugging issues and general troubleshooting.

  • Monitor preventative maintenance programs for all set-up, planer and feed table equipment.

  • Assist planners and maintenance supervisor with scheduling weekend maintenance, PM’s and ordering parts.

  • Assist and provide input and discussion to the dry end supervisor as needed.



  • Communicate, coordinate and track all set up work and activities with coworkers and other departments.



  • Maintain and keep all set up, planer, infeed and feed table equipment in proper working order.

  • Ability to be proactive with regards to potential equipment breakdown and failure by alerting appropriate maintenance personnel/ or supervisors.

  • Troubleshoot planer operational issues including hydraulic systems.

  • Work closely with managers and supervisors to identify repair, improvement opportunities and solutions.

  • Maintain clean department and equipment. Clean up during and after shifts.

  • Ensure all parts checked out during shift have tags pulled

  • Coordinate parts usage with warehouse manager, planners and maintenance supervisor.

  • Maintain acceptable production levels.

  • Be present for all training that occurs during the work week.

  • Other duties as needed.


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS



  • High school diploma or GED.

  • 5+ years of planer set-up in lumber industry.

  • Expert understanding of defects related to lumber and knowing what needs to change to ensure quality and accuracy.

  • Working knowledge of lumber grading rules and standards.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS


Ability to sit and/or stand for shift, reach with hands and arms, stoop, squat, bend at the waist, kneel, walk varying distance, and climb stairs.


WORK ENVIRONMENT


Must be able to tolerate all weather elements, loud conditions, airborne particles (sawdust).
