JOB SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

The Database Administrator is responsible for the management, maintenance, and security of the healthcare databases. Key duties include ensuring the integrity, availability, and performance of databases while adhering to regulatory standards and organizational values. With expertise in database management and optimization, the Database Administrator assumes a crucial role in safeguarding critical data and enabling efficient operations, significantly contributing to Choctaw Premier Services’ success in delivering high-quality healthcare services.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Install, configure, and maintain healthcare databases, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
  • Monitor database performance, conduct tuning, and resolve issues to ensure efficient operation.
  • Implement and enforce data security measures to protect sensitive healthcare information.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards (e.g., HIPAA) concerning data privacy and security.
  • Develop and execute backup and recovery plans to safeguard data against loss or corruption.
  • Regularly test backup and recovery procedures to ensure data can be restored in the event of an IT failure.
  • Ensure data accuracy and consistency by performing routine audits and resolving discrepancies.
  • Implement data validation processes and enforce data quality standards.
  • Design and implement database schemas, tables, indexes, and other database objects to support healthcare applications and reporting needs.
  • Collaborate with developers and other IT professionals to integrate databases with applications and systems.
  • Provide technical support for database-related issues and assist healthcare staff with data access and query performance.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve database-related problems promptly to minimize disruption.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of database configurations, procedures, and changes.
  • Generate reports and provide insights related to database performance and usage.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong knowledge of database administration tasks, including installation, configuration, and performance tuning.
  • Understanding of data security practices and regulatory requirements related to healthcare data.
  • Experience with database backup and recovery procedures and tools.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with database scripting and query optimization.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve database issues efficiently.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with healthcare professionals and IT teams.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in managing and maintaining database systems.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and proactive approach to learning and applying new database technologies and techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively with IT teams, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders to meet data-related needs.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing technology and organizational requirements.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, healthcare informatics, or related field.
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in database administration, preferably within a healthcare setting.
  • Proficiency with database management systems such as Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, or similar.

PREFERRED:

  • Advanced degree in information technology, healthcare informatics, or related field.
  • Certification in database management (e.g. Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA), Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), or healthcare informatics (e.g., Certified Health Informatics Systems Professional (CHISP)).
  • Experience with specific healthcare databases or electronic health record (EHR) systems (e.g. Epic, Cerner).
  • Experience with data warehousing concepts and technologies.
