Description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Database Administrator to join our team. This role involves the administration, support, and maintenance of Enterprise Information Systems, including application servers and databases. Under direct supervision, you will ensure the effective installation, configuration, upgrading, patching, and problem resolution of database application software and application servers. You will also provide support to application developers, monitor system performance, manage security processes, and maintain comprehensive documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Enterprise Application Administration:
    • Install, configure, maintain, support, upgrade, and patch Enterprise Information Systems database application software.
    • Provide basic support to application developers, including data restores, data replication, access privileges, design improvements, SQL tuning, and creating/enforcing standards.
    • Prepare test and development environments and troubleshoot related issues.
  2. Application Server Administration:
    • Install, configure, upgrade, patch, monitor, and troubleshoot Enterprise Information Systems application servers under direct supervision.
    • Monitor and manage server disk space usage.
    • Assist DBA and Systems Administration teams with server capacity planning.
    • Provide support on a 24x7 basis to DBA, SA, development staff, and end-users for issue identification and resolution.
  3. Database Administration:
    • Install, configure, upgrade, patch, monitor, and support the university’s databases under direct supervision.
    • Monitor and report on database archive log management, export, and backup scripts.
    • Assist with problem identification and resolution related to database archive log management and backup scripts.
    • Implement and periodically test backup and recovery scripts.
  4. Database & Application Security Administration:
    • Configure, implement, monitor, and support database and application security processes and procedures.
    • Assist senior DBAs in establishing, maintaining, and auditing user account access for enterprise information systems.
  5. Database & Application Problem Resolution:
    • Assist DBA, SA, development staff, and end-users with identifying and resolving issues with Enterprise Information Systems databases and applications.
    • Monitor databases for alerts regarding existing or potential issues and take appropriate actions to resolve or prevent these issues on a 24x7 basis.
  6. Database & Application Documentation:
    • Coordinate, develop, and maintain comprehensive documentation for installation, configuration, upgrades, patches, backups, restorations, auditing, security, performance tuning, and monitoring procedures.
Work Schedule: The ITS department offers flexible schedules with remote work possible.

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Any one or any combination totaling two (2) years (24 months) from the following categories:
    1. College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
      • 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
      • Associate’s Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
      • 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
      • Bachelor’s Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
    2. Work experience in IT-related functions, such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field.
  3. Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position may be required:
  • 2 years of experience in relational database programming (SQL and PL/SQL) and analysis
  • 2 years of experience with various operating systems:(Unix, Linux, Windows); Ability to immediately respond and support critical applications on a 24x7 basis

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience w/ programming languages (C, Cobol, Java, Perl, Java Script & Python) is a plus
  • Experience as an Oracle or SQL Server DBA/Developer is a plus; Experience with Ellucian's Banner & ODS Enterprise systems is a plus.
