General Summary/ Overview Statement


The entry level Research Assistant I (RA) will support projects related to chronic disease management in primary care and the use of electronic health records (EHRs) and clinical decision support (CDS) to support clinicians and the affected patient populations. This project involves designing and implementing CDS tools to improve the quality of care provided to patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in primary care clinics across the BWH network. An RA with a high level of professionalism and interpersonal skills is required to provide support for queries from the stakeholders and participants/patients. The RA will need excellent attention to detail and critical thinking skills, as well as a high level of proficiency in data analysis in a clinical environment.


Principal duties may vary depending on the phases of the project (information gathering, data collection, analysis, etc). The RA will support all activities associated with the execution of the research plan including Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions, regular progress reports to the sponsor organization, and organizing communication with participants and project staff. The RA will conduct a retrospective patient chart review. The RA will use REDCap, MS Access and Excel to assist with data collection and analysis. The RA's responsibilities will also include administrative tasks and literature searches.



Principal Duties And Responsibilities






• Assist with data abstraction from a variety of sources including patient medical records (chart review), hospital clinical information systems, and stakeholder transcripts.


• May recruit/enroll/consent participants (clinicians/patients) per the protocols.


• Utilize REDCap, MS Access and Excel to assist in data collection efforts, database development, and descriptive data analysis. (In-house REDCap and MS Access training is available.)


• Assist with preparation of Institutional Review Board (IRB) documentation and forms for study protocol approvals and amendments.


• Help with the preparation of talks and presentation materials including PowerPoint slides, tables and graphs.


• Assist with conducting interviews, surveys, and running focus groups


• Assist with grant progress reports and IRB submissions as needed.


• Conduct other administrative tasks (photocopying, scheduling, etc.) as needed.


• Set up team/stakeholder meetings and take minutes.


• Work closely with investigators and staff at BWH, Mass General Brigham, and the other participating institutions.


• Perform general topic searches and specialized literature database searches. Retrieve journal articles from the Internet or library. Maintain a bibliographic library of supporting material.


• Assist with the preparation of formal research reports and manuscripts for publication in professional journals and presentation at national/international conferences.

• Bachelor's Degree and an interest in healthcare and the use of technology to support clinical care.


• Familiarity with End Note preferred.


• Familiarity with REDCap and MS Access preferred

• Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect.


• Good oral and written communication skills.


• Organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.


• Capability to work independently, complete work, and meet deadlines with only general supervision.


• Competency in REDCap and Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access preferred.


• Ability to use the medical bibliographic retrieval program Reference Manager or End Note helpful.
