A laboratory technician is needed to assist and support the operations of the Pittsburgh Phage Program, which offers bacteriophage therapy to treat antibiotic-resistant infections in infected patients. The specialist will assist with screening bacterial strains for phage susceptibility, manufacturing phage for clinical use, and processing biospecimens collected from patients who receive this new therapeutic modality.
Key job duties:
Performs laboratory testing and some analysis on multiple types of specimen samples. Operates and properly sterilizes equipment and maintains inventory and assists with ordering.
This position requires a high level of mobility, manual dexterity, visual acuity, and basic computer skills. Must have the ability to be flexible and manage competing priorities as assigned by supervisor.
Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Light lifting may be required. This position requires that the applicant travel between laboratories, campus buildings, and to sit or stand at a laboratory bench for extended periods of time.
