The Burn Crew Member (BCM) participates in wild land fire operations which include ignition, control, mop-up, suppression, monitoring, and other tasks as assigned. As part of the BCM's ongoing professional development, they will be responsible for keeping abreast of new burn techniques and equipment to enhance skills and maintain/grow professional fire certification credentials. In addition, they shall work to build and maintain relationships in the professional fire community and in the local community where the Conservancy works. This may include participation in wildland fire suppression activities in partnership with other non-profits, local fire departments, and local, state and federal agencies, tribal or indigenous, either as a TNC employee, or as a volunteer or short-term employee of the partner entity (such as an administratively determined, short term federal employee). They may work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain, and under physically demanding circumstances.

The Georgia Southern Blue Ridge (SBR) fire crew runs from January 6th to May 2nd and focuses primarily on prescribed fire operations within the Chattahoochee National Forest. SBR crew duties will include all aspects of prescribed fire operations including fireline prep, hazard removal, ignitions, mop-up, and post-fire monitoring as well as other non-fire land management tasks as available.
Housing with basic utilities will be provided at no cost to the employee upon signing and agreeing to housing terms, and the employee must live in provided housing with the SBR fire crew to maximize the effectiveness of the crew and to provide a general security presence for TNC's equipment.
$17.82 - $19.75 / hour- commensurate with experience and relevant qualifications.
The position will run from Jan. 6, 2025, to May 2, 2025. Begin and end dates are flexible within timeframe and maximum 4-month allotment. Preference will be given for full 4-month commitment.

The pay for a candidate selected for this position is $17.82 - $19.75/hour. A successful candidate's actual pay will be based on a variety of factors, including, qualifications, specific skills, and experience.
