Function of Position:

Liberty Partnerships, a comprehensive academic excellence program funded by the New York State Education Department, was established in 1988 to address the significant dropout rate among New York State's youth. Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP) engages colleges and universities, school districts, parents, students, community organizations, business and industry, and local government as stakeholders. The mission of LPP is to ensure that program participants graduate from high school and enter post-secondary education or the workforce as highly competent young adults. Monroe Community College's LPP provides academic and personal support services to at-risk Rochester City School District students in grades 7-12.

The Program Advisor is responsible for providing age-appropriate programming for middle and high school students that will develop the students' knowledge of the world of work and prepare students to make decisions about future career paths. The Advisor is also responsible for assisting in the planning and facilitation of the career exploration, student leadership, mentoring, and college prep components of the program.

The Advisor will assist in developing culturally relevant activities that address student needs and interests. The Advisor is also responsible for enhancing parent engagement by maintaining regular communication with parents via phone calls, emails, texts, and other appropriate means.

*This is a temporary, grant-funded position that may be renewed annually contingent upon availability of grant funding and performance reviews. This position is eligible for paid time off and benefits.

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Manage recruiting efforts across the four (4) target schools, and follow up with families to complete the enrollment process in LPP
  • Plan and facilitate the LPP Parent Engagement Committee meetings
  • Assist in planning and supervising campus-based and off-campus cultural, social, career exploration, and college prep activities for students and parents
  • Plan and implement career exploration activities that broaden students' awareness of career options and educational/experience requirements
  • Develop and maintain ongoing communication with school personnel as appropriate
  • Administer resiliency assessments to LPP students on caseload
  • Supervise after-school tutoring sessions
  • Assist the Program Director with the planning and implementation of the summer program
  • Attend school-based meetings and act as an LPP representative at school events, such as Parent/Teacher Conferences, agency fairs, and orientations
  • Attend LPP statewide meetings and professional development conferences
  • Attend the annual LPP Empire Youth Summit with LPP staff and students
  • Maintain accurate records to report to key stakeholders
  • Make home visits as needed
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Director of LPP

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned Associate's Degree with Bachelor's work in progress in education, human services, social work, counseling or a related field from a regionally accredited higher education institution
  • Ability to develop and plan enrichment activities for at-risk middle and high school students
  • Evidence of communicating effectively and building relationships with students of diverse backgrounds
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team
  • Evidence of some proficiency with technology
  • Commitment to service to the institution
  • Commitment to professional growth

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Earned Bachelor's Degree in education, human service, social work, counseling or a related field from a regionally accredited higher education institution.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the Rochester City School District and community resources for adolescents and families.
  • Experience in career development/guidance.
  • Experience with the college admissions process.
  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently


Additional Information:

Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity and college budget. This position has a range of $42,000 to $43,000 and is based on these mentioned factors.
