The Indiana University School of Public Health-Bloomington (SPH-B) invites applications for the position of Director of Inclusive Excellence and Belonging. Job Summary



The Director of Inclusive Excellence and Belonging provides leadership at the direction of the Associate Dean for Organizational Climate, Inclusion, and Belonging and the Assistant Dean of Student Academic Affairs to the school on recruitment, retention, outreach, and success of under-represented groups that include undergraduate and graduate students and staff. Under-represented students include the traditional first generation, low income and diverse student populations including prospective applicants, matriculating students and alumni.

Department Specific Responsibilities

  • Provides expertise to veterans, international students, and other under-represented groups in the broadest context of the definition.
  • Identifies, recruits, and assists under-represented graduate and undergraduate students using a variety of contact points, establishing effective communications to these students, and developing programs and communications that promote the School of Public Health as a viable opportunity for students seeking undergraduate degrees.
  • Serves as the school's liaison to the university's Office of Admissions and participates on other campus committees to assist the students and ensure their success.
  • Leads recruitment efforts for prospective URM graduate students, especially the GU2IU program, as well as other graduate initiatives from under-represented groups.
  • Works very closely with the Associate Dean for Organizational Climate, Inclusion, and Belonging to develop guidelines related to Inclusive Excellence initiatives that impact students and staff within the SPH-B (School of Public Health Bloomington).
  • Annually analyzes complex SPH-B activities related to diversity and make recommendations to the AD OCIB and the AD for SAA related to new initiatives, programs needing remediation and outcomes related to the previous years' goals associated with diversity.
  • Monitors, facilitates, and maintains the coordination of financial aid awarded internally by the departments of SPH-B as well as assist graduate students in finding sources of funding from campus or private funds.
  • Assists in developing and implementing diversity training programs for students and staff.
  • Coordinates efforts to facilitate student engagement with department, school, campus, and university-level initiatives that provide support for diverse students.
  • Establishes priorities for students and staff diversity efforts and interprets outcome data related to diversity in contrast with the entire university system.
  • Provides general assistance and advice for under-represented undergraduate and graduate students including SPH-B international students on all aspects of university life such as finding financial assistance, work opportunities, and some career planning.
  • Serves as the lead and primary contact for matters related to Inclusive Excellence and Belonging and campus diversity initiatives for students (graduate and undergraduate level) and staff.
  • Seeks to identify new funding sources for under-represented students.
  • Collaborates with the Associate Dean for Organizational Climate, Inclusion, and Belonging and faculty fellows to provide training for staff and students.
  • Directs and develops the budget in consultation with the Assistant Dean for Student Academic Affairs and Associate Dean for Organizational Climate, Inclusion, and Belonging.
General Responsibilities
  • Provides day-to-day operational management of staff.
  • Establishes short-term operational objectives.
  • Ensures that elements of equity, diversity, and inclusion are embedded as imperatives in the institutional mission, vision, and strategic plan.
  • Identifies operational issues and/or areas of improvement and implements solutions to improve processes and/or operational efficiency.
  • Provides operational assistance to planning, facilitating, catalyzing, and evaluating processes of institutional and organizational change.
  • Analyzes, monitors, and evaluates performance of assigned staff; establishes work priorities, conducts performance reviews, and provides corrective action as needed.
  • Ensures adequate staffing and effective scheduling; participates and informs employment decisions for assigned staff.
  • Provides direct supervision and oversight of assigned staff and activities; impacts, and is held accountable for, the performance of team and/or assigned staff.
  • Ensures and provides training to assigned staff to improve user support operations; researches and identifies development opportunities for assigned staff.
  • Keeps next-level leader(s) informed of trends as well as significant problems.
  • May work with senior campus administrators to reverse or remove any imbedded intuitional policies, procedures, and norms that create differential structural barriers to the access and success of students, faculty, and staff who belong to marginalized groups

EDUCATION



Required



  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in leadership development, student personnel or closely related field)


Preferred



  • Master's degree

WORK EXPERIENCE



Required



  • 2 years of diversity program management or related experience


Preferred



  • 5 years of student program management or in a student services area

Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
