Production Supervisor - Assembly at Elgin Sweeper

Job Description:

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:


  1. Effectively select, develop/maintain position specific training programs, deliver performance feedback and disciplinary action to assigned staff to promote a collaborative and motivated production environment.

  2. With key work partners to collaborate, plan and implements process improvement and cost reduction initiatives.

  3. Evaluate, disposition, and process rejects according to established policy and practices.

  4. Monitor supplier product quality, inventory levels and initiate replenishment order for consumables supplies.

  5. Define, measure and report on production metrics and utilize information to formulate objectives for staff.

  6. Observe production schedule and identify and resolve barriers to resolve day to day production issues to ensure customer deadlines and quality standards are met.

  7. Conduct department meetings to communicate status on relevant items and ensure company policies are being followed.

  8. Maintain shortage list related to production and follow up on missing components.

  9. Working with assigned Manufacturing Engineer, perform address quality related issues and implement recommended solutions.

  10. Coordinate with outside vendor and, schedule on-site services to resolve quality related issues.

  11. Conduct scheduled safety audits, deliver safety training, and ensure employees follow established safety guidelines.

  12. Review and approve weekly time records for assigned employees.

  13. Perform other duties, assignments and special projects as assigned.

Position Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; Experience in with mechanical/heavy equipment assembly highly desirable

  • 3+ years’ experience in Production environment, with proven track record of problem-solving skills, cost management, and high-performance team interaction

  • 3 to 5 years’ experience in direct employee supervision required. Responsible for selection, performance management, and disciplinary activities for all direct reports

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills essential, both verbal and written, and able to work within a collaborative team environment

  • Ability to demonstrate excellent leadership capabilities with sound judgement and ability to build and maintain trusted relationships among team members

  • Proven track record in MRP, with ability to effectively problem solve and demonstrated cost management

  • 3-5 years related work experience with exposure to Lean methodology and KANBAN pull systems environment

  • Intermediate knowledge of Excel preferred

  • Exposure to lean concepts and experience with Kaizen highly desirable

  • Ability to work Monday - Thursday 5:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. with once a month shift on Friday and/or Saturday
