Job Description:

The Sterile Processing Department (SPD) Educator ensures that SPD associates are properly trained and operating within the guidelines set forth by industry standards and regulations to include, but not limited to, the:


  • International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management (IAHCSMM)
  • Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)
  • Association of perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN)
  • The Joint Commission (TJC)
  • U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
  • Center for Disease Control (CDC)
  • Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA)
  • Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI)


The SPD Educator is accountable for adherence to policies and procedures of Nemours to include Nemours Children's Health, Delaware, Malvern Ambulatory Surgery Center (BMASC), and Deptford Ambulatory Surgery Center (DASC).

The SPD Educator is responsible for various administrative training duties related to SPD associates. The SPD Educator travels to all Delaware Valley SPD sites as needed in order to conduct training on all shifts. In addition, the SPD Educator will be responsible for assessing and maintaining associate competencies with regard to instrumentation, endoscopes, and probe reprocessing functions.

The SPD Educator is expected to maintain all state and federal clearances for DE, PA, and NJ for periodic rotation to the Malvern Surgery Center and the Deptford Ambulatory Surgery Center, Deptford, NJ as the discretion of Perioperative Leadership.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Responsible for initial associate performance assessments and annual competencies for all Delaware Valley SPDs with regard to instruments, endoscopes, and probe reprocessing functions. Responsibilities also include conducting routine annual, semi-annual, and intermittent training based on SPD standard operating procedures (SOP).
  • Responsible for offering and conducting in-service education and additional training for SPD associates as needed at all Delaware Valley SPD sites. Responsible for communicating training progress to the SPD Manager and Lead SPD Technicians.
  • Utilizes evidence-based research to facilitate training and professional development for all SPD associates.
  • Develops and maintains a schedule for continuing education and training for each Delaware Valley SPD.
  • Responsible for conducting audits of SPD associate training records to ensure compliance with organizational and governing guidelines.
  • Responsible for ensuring that resources are available to meet requirements of SPD associate achievement and maintenance of national certification.
  • Responsible for maintaining documentation relative to safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning, delivering, and managing training and development activities.
  • Promotes quality assurance and performance improvement related to SPD associates' technical skills.
  • Updated Policies/Procedure Proxy.
  • Writes and updates Reliable Methods
  • Onboards new hires/students
  • Maintains BLS and certification expiration dates
  • Locker designation for new hires/students in collaboration with OR
  • Sign off all competencies regardless of shifts or days
  • Ongoing education for staff


Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree required
  • Required certifications: Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST), Certified Instrument Specialist (CIS), Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER), and Certified Healthcare Leader (CHL).
  • Three or more years experience
