As a Principal Data Scientist with The Standard, you will consult and partner with enterprise business leaders and stakeholders to deliver business value through advanced AI and Machine Learning capabilities. In this highly visible role, you will also mentor mid-level Data Scientists and collaborate with engineering and business teams to deliver impactful solutions through a structured data science lifecycle, from problem identification through deployment, performance measurement and benefits realization. You will ultimately develop an information advantage through advanced analytical capabilities while working to develop the team’s reputation as highly skilled experts in data science. Along the way, you will actively partner with the Applied AI group to grow a company-wide educational program for Data Science and ML, implement industry best practices in data science product organizations, and develop product-oriented execution approaches.

Other responsibilities include:

  • Proactively identify opportunities to innovate and leverage advanced analytical capabilities to drive business results. Opportunity areas include loss mitigation, fraud detection, channel and service optimization, product/market insight and innovation, operational efficiency and predicting customer value.
  • Develop hypotheses, convert these into the right analytical problems & solutions, and communicate results back to your internal business customers to drive effective outcomes.
  • Conduct advanced analytics, leveraging predictive modeling, machine learning, simulation, optimization and other techniques, to deliver insights or develop analytical solutions to achieve business objectives within your assigned area of focus.
  • Work with large data sets and develop algorithms and supporting code to ensure the highest quality data.

Skills and Background You’ll Need

  • EDUCATION: A Master’s degree in quantitative fields. A PhD is preferred.
  • EXPERIENCE: 6-10 years’ experience building advanced data science models. Financial services or insurance industry is a bonus.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience using data science tools (Python, R, Spark, SQL) and well-known cloud services (Azure, Databricks, and Dataiku or other auto-ML platforms.)
  • Expert knowledge of statistics and machine learning theory (examples: Survival Models, Logistic Regression, Random Forest, SVM, and Neural Networks, Regression, Clustering, ANOVA, Experimental design, etc). Experience in ML Ops best practices preferred.
  • Experience in developing Data Monetization business cases along with clear execution approach. Verifiable track record of using data to provide actionable and impactful business results. Experience in designing Data Science Could Solution Architecture.
  • Effective communications skills that instill confidence within internal and external audiences, and ability to translate complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders to help enable understanding and drive informed business decisions. A consultative personality: make recommendations based on your understanding and findings! Easily establish yourself as a trusted partner and the ability to build effective partnerships across all areas of the organization and with colleagues at all levels.

Please note - the salary range for this role is listed below. In addition to salary, our package includes incentive plan participation and comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision and retirement benefits, as well as an initial PTO accrual of 164 hours per year. Employees also receive 11 paid holidays and 2 wellness days per year.

  • Eligibility to participate in an incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program and plan. Any award depends on various factors, including individual and organizational performance.

Salary Range:

$163,500.00 - $240,000.00
