Job Summary

Reporting to the senior director of disability benefits, the director of disability benefits will contribute to our success by leading a team of business leaders and individual contributors across diverse roles and responsibilities.

  • Ensure quality of claim set up for Long Term Disability (LTD), Life Waiver of Premium (LWOP), and Individual Disability Income (IDI).

  • Ensure timely, accurate, and thoroughly investigated disability decisions and ongoing management of Short Duration LTD disability claims.

  • Guarantee claim assistants are assisting disability benefits analysts with securing relevant information for LTD claims, executing disability management plans, and administering low maintenance claims.

  • Direct department operations and personnel to meet goals in claim decision accuracy investigations, reserve, payment and tax accuracy, deductible income and overpayments, policy provisions, communications, and reporting of claim data.

  • Communicate and collaborates with various departments across the organization to meet business needs.

  • Responsible for managing the work environment, identifying workforce needs and ensuring alignment with corporate expectations, values, and vision.

Skills and Background You’ll Need

  • Education: A bachelor’s degree is required -or- 5 years of additional disability leadership experience may substitute.

  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible benefit leadership experience.

  • Experience applying Lean methodology.

  • Experience leading in one or more of the following areas: short duration LTD claims, claim intake, or administrative assistance to claim handlers.

  • Experience working with vendor partners.

  • Advanced knowledge of managed disability and claim management principles and practices, contract interpretation and application, ERISA, and state laws/case law pertaining to disability claim administration.

  • Proven ability of having successfully managed personnel and other resources to meet goals on time and within budget.

  • Proven ability to evaluate effectiveness of operations and direct changes to improve quality, timeliness, and customer satisfaction.

Please note - the salary range for this role is listed below. In addition to salary, our package includes incentive plan participation and comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision and retirement benefits, as well as an initial PTO accrual of 164 hours per year. Employees also receive 11 paid holidays and 2 wellness days per year.

  • Eligibility to participate in an incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program and plan. Any award depends on various factors, including individual and organizational performance.

Salary Range:

$116,000.00 - $185,500.00
