Job Overview

The Sourcing Specialist will report to a Sourcing Manager and is responsible with developing and executing sourcing strategies for designated material groups, which may include Myers Industries enterprise-wide or business unit-wide raw materials, packaging components, and/or site-specific services and production supplies. The position coordinates and closely works with Sourcing Managers, Plant Buyers, Supply Chain Managers, Engineering, Quality, and other Plant Personnel to ensure strategic alignment and execution for owned sourcing categories. . Executes all accountabilities in compliance with SOX standards.

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Works with the Sourcing Manager to develop and execute strategic sourcing plans and initiatives that support and align with corporate goals and objectives

  • Find, qualify, and develop new vendors and manage related relationships
  • Facilitate smooth New Product Development (NPD) project launches by coordinating supplier identification, evaluation, and selection
  • Continuously gather and communicate relevant market intelligence to understand and analyze current and future market conditions, build sourcing strategies, inform negotiations and buying decisions, and assist in pricing discussions
  • Support the execution of Make or Buy analysis and strategies by linking enterprise-wide supplier capabilities to potential product development/enhancement opportunities

  • Evaluate procurement opportunities through assessment of cost-benefit analysis and assessing, managing and mitigating supplier risks
  • Accountable for achieving procurement goals and action plans by attaining or exceeding annual cost savings targets
  • Works with cross-functional team to minimize risk via dual sourcing, supply redundancy, developing supplier stocking strategies
  • Monitors updates/revisions to forecast and production schedules to proactively identify conflicts, and execute required actions to support overall sourcing and procurement objectives
  • Coordinate Supplier Performance monitoring, assessment, and reporting on a quarterly basis
  • Optimize the sourcing function to support operational plans, inventory management and supply plan objectives relative to lead time, geographic location, supplier capability
  • Develops, maintains, and executes vendor-managed inventory programs in concert with the Buyer
  • Maintains accurate sourcing and procurement records - including month-end reporting

Education and Experience


  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a similar degree strongly preferred
  • Excellent communication (written & verbal) and organizational skills
  • Superior analytical, decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Self-starter, strong business acumen
  • Proficient computer skills and an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Office is required.
