Job Description:

Federal Signal is recruiting for a person to provide administrative support to the Safety Department to ensure compliance with all corporate safety program expectations and applicable federal & state laws governing the health and safety of individuals. This position will also ensure that all employee training is completed, documented and maintained regarding regulatory requirements. They will monitor follow-ups and corrective action resulting from all health and safety audits.


Key Activities/Responsibilities:



  • Aid Safety and Production leadership in developing meeting agendas, training materials and activities to meet established safety goals and objectives.

  • Perform Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) assessments and maintain an inventory of required PPE throughout the plant. Track all PPE purchases, including shoes and Rx safety eyewear.

  • Identify safety training needs, assist with safety training and maintain safety training logs and records, inclusive of audiometric and respirator fit testing.

  • Complete reports tracking incident investigation completion and production supervisor safety goals.

  • Manage plant environmental requirements, including but not limited to: Ross Air Permit, Tier II, No Exposure Storm Water Permit, Universal Waste Lamp Crushing, Hazardous Waste Manifests, and Waste Profiles.

  • Complete weekly, monthly and/or quarterly safety checks and audits as required per OSHA or Company standards (i.e. First Aid supplies, AEDs, fire extinguishers, water sampling, lead logs, water cooling tests and altering & notification system, ). Perform risk assessments of chemical storage and audit labeling of chemicals and storage.

  • Follow all governmental agency hazardous material requirements. Including but not limited to proper storage, labeling, and removal of hazardous materials

  • Complete annual facility chemical audit and maintain the SDS system.

  • Track personal protective equipment (shoes and prescription safety eyewear) purchases. Schedule on site shoe mobile visits and maintain employee list for prescription safety eyewear provider.

  • Manage and track forklift inspections

  • Leads and participates in 5S/6S Lean activities

  • Organize and participate on the safety

  • Assist with weather, security, and health related

  • Assist with safety policy and procedure development and

  • Create & maintain employee badges & Manage badge access database, video system and perform building access audits.

  • Earn and maintain First Aid, CPR, AED, and Blood Borne Pathogen certification

  • Provide administrative support to the Safety and Maintenance department as required

  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements/ Skills Needed:



  • High school diploma / and associate degree preferred

  • 3 - 5 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to train others and create procedures/presentations.

  • Ability to work in a team environment & with all levels of employees

  • Self-starter with initiative and ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to plan, prioritize and complete work on schedule

  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point.

  • Strong ability to multi-task.
