Job Description:

Federal signal has an opening for an Acoustic Engineer. This person will apply acoustic, electrical and systems engineering theory and concepts to the design and development of components, systems and customer layout drawings.

Key Activities/Responsibilities: 


  • Analyze and interpret data from acoustic tests and measurements

  • Use computer modeling software to simulate acoustic scenarios and predict sound quality

  • Provide expertise on noise and vibration control for a wide variety of applications, including product design, environmental impact assessments, and workplace safety regulations

  • Write technical reports and documentation of acoustic test results and design solutions

  • Stay updated on current research and advancements in acoustic engineering and related fields

  • Designs speaker driver systems including voice coil, diaphragm and magnet structures

  • Designs horns, acoustic coupling structures including throat impedance modeling, acoustic efficiency and radiation pattern control

  • Design and implement acoustic solutions for various projects

  • Conduct acoustical analyses and assessments

  • Test the performance of acoustical designs

  • Collaborate with the design and engineering teams

  • Prepare technical reports and presentations

  • Stay updated on the latest trends and technologies in the field of acoustics

  • Understands and provides guidance on siren standards

  • Flexibility to perform other duties and assignments as required

Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Acoustics, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university

  • 3 - 5 years of engineering experience

  • Proven work experience as an Acoustic Engineer or similar role

  • Strong understanding of acoustics principles

  • Experience with acoustical testing equipment and software

  • Knowledge of noise control methodologies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Good communication and presentation abilities
