Job Summary



As the Administrative Assistant, you will be the welcoming face and first point of contact for our patients. From scheduling appointments to providing crucial insurance information, your role is essential in ensuring a smooth and supportive experience for all who visit the Student Health Center. Your customer service skills and attention to detail will be key as you guide patients through the process, all while adhering to our guidelines on eligibility, insurance coverage, billing, and patient confidentiality.


Department-Specific Responsibilities


  • Assist patients with all aspects of registration and check-out.

  • Verifies patient eligibility, student status/demographics.

  • Schedules appointments.

  • Accepts payments.

  • Maintains a secure cash drawer.

  • Sets up accounts to bill insurance.

  • Serves as a liaison between staff, patients, and parents, ensuring clear communication.

General Responsibilities


  • Provides administrative support to a department or group of professionals, exercising confidentiality, tact and diplomacy.

  • Utilizes business software applications to prepare correspondence, reports, presentations, agendas, minutes, etc.

  • Receives, screens, and directs incoming calls, visitors, mail, and email.

  • Schedules and confirms appointments and meetings.

  • Assists the development and implementation of administrative standards, policies and practices for the organization.




Qualifications



EDUCATION



Required



  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)

SKILLS



Required



  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Strong verbal communication and listening skills

  • Effective interpersonal skills

  • Maintains a high degree of professionalism

  • Demonstrates ability to maintain confidential information


Preferred



  • Familiarity with medical terminology and health insurance

  • Quick and accurate decision making

  • Ability to learn and work in multiple computer systems with a high degree of accuracy in a fast-paced environment while providing excellent customer service

  • Thorough and dependable




Working Conditions / Demands



This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Work Location



This in-person role is based in Bloomington, where you will be part of a dynamic campus community.



Advertised Salary



$17.08 per hour



Work Hours



Full time position, 40 hours per week, 10 months a year.


Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm, or 8:30am-5:30pm
