The Director of Engineering is a key leadership position in the Engineering department, reporting to the VP of Operations. The Director of Engineering is responsible for developing and implementing the engineering strategy and vision for the organization, leading and managing a team of engineers, overseeing engineering projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations, and driving continuous improvement and innovation in product design, standardization, automation, and manufacturing efficiency.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES and TASKS:
Lead the development and implementation of engineering strategy and vision for the organization
Lead, manage, and mentor a team of engineers, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement(CK2)
Oversee engineering projects from conception to completion, ensuring they are executed appropriately
Ensure all engineering activities comply with industry standards, regulations, and safety requirements
Analyze improvement opportunities in all engineering-related processes and lead associated change implementation.
Discover opportunities in product design for cost reductions, product improvements, automation and manufacturing efficiency. Work closely with Sales, Operations, Continuous Improvement, Quality, and Supply Chain on implementation.
Successfully collaborate with other key department leaders to ensure effective collaboration and workflow amongst functional areas
Work closely with plant operations to ensure that the expectations and needs of operations team are being met
Focus on customer needs – sales and manufacturing – and satisfy them on a daily basis
Lead companywide standardization and automation efforts and work with various departments to meet organizational goals and initiatives
Navigate in a fast-paced environment, responding appropriately
Participate in engineering and general design reviews.
Manage design protocols including fundamental design practices, engineering change and BOM structure
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience
Management experience
5+ years of engineering experience
Ability to work in a fast, efficient environment with cross-functional teams
Experience in budgeting, tracking costs, analyzing data, and developing action plans
SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, ETC:
Excellent organizational, supervisory, and leadership skills to manage a team of engineers and technical staff
Use computer assisted drafting (CAD) equipment and software
Proven multitasking skills and the ability to work under pressure
