Responsibilities

What you'll be challenged to do:

Our Cleveland, Ohio office is looking for a Structural Engineer to work with our staff of registered Professional Engineers for bridge design and inspection, plans preparation, and load rating analysis. The design tasks will be completed using AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, AASHTO Standard Specifications for Highway Bridges, and State Design guidelines.

General Duties & Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


  • Bridge Design, contract plans preparation and specifications requiring quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and efficient conformance to budgets and schedules

  • Developing and analyzing design options

  • Maintaining organized design calculation and project data

  • Performing load ratings analysis

  • Calculation of quantities and development of cost estimates

  • The position may require the engineer to take part in bridge inspection assignments as an Inspection Team Member and prepare bridge inspection reports documenting inspection findings

  • Office support for construction support services

  • Work with contractor or other consultants to develop demolition and erection plans, temporary sheeting, cofferdam designs, and temporary supports

  • Review shop drawing submittals. Organize submittals and address questions from contractors during the construction phases of structures

 

Qualifications

What you bring to our firm:


  • Bachelor’s degree in civil/structural engineering

  • 0 to 4 years of experience in structural bridge engineering assignments

  • Team oriented engineer with strong communication skills

  • Experience with Microsoft Windows Office Suite  

  • Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:


  • Master degree in civil/structural engineering

  • EIT or EI license

  • Experience with Bentley MicroStation and/or AutoCAD

  • Experience in new bridge design, bridge rehabilitation, and/or inspection of bridges

  • Experience with common commercial structural software

  • Experience with LRFD and LRFR of Highway Bridges

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, however, construction and field assignments can be severe (i.e. Airport noise, construction equipment, jack hammers, etc).

  • The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, talk or hear, and drive a car. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.
