Evening Circulation Supervisor at University of Oklahoma

Job Description:

The Law Library seeks a dedicated, professional, and organized individual to supervise circulation services during evening hours and to perform other duties to create a friendly and functional library environment.  The supervisor will oversee a team of student employees and ensure smooth library operations by providing excellent customer service and by maintaining a functional and clean work environment.  Key responsibilities include assisting patrons, troubleshooting technical issues, and assisting in technical aspects of collection development and coordinating with other library staff to support the academic needs of law students, faculty and public patrons.  The ideal candidate will possess strong customer service skills, the ability to engage positively with a variety of patrons, attention to detail, and a commitment to fostering a collaborative and efficient library atmosphere.  Furthermore, they will be able to serve patrons and enforce library policies with clarity, consistency, patience, and tact.  The anticipated schedule for this full-time position is Tuesday through Saturday, 11AM to 8 PM with some schedule flexibility available.


Job Functions and Tasks:



  • Participates in hiring, training, supervising and evaluation of student Circulation Assistants.  Perform the duties of the student Circulation Assistants in their absence.  Provide constructive feedback to student Circulation Assistants.  Address job performance and/or behavioral issues of student Circulation Assistants with the Circulation Manager.

  • Attends to patrons with special problems or complaints; attempts to resolve these problems as appropriate or refers patrons' concerns to Circulation Manager.

  • Assists patrons in use of the printers, copiers, and other library-related technologies

  • Oversees maintenance of stacks and microform area

  • Manages library bindery functions

  • Performs faculty office loose-leaf filing and supervises student loose-leaf filings

  • Performs interlibrary loan tasks as assigned, including filling loan and article lending requests, resolving errors and citation issues, and mailing items.

  • Maintains library records that may be of a confidential nature.

  • Assists in scheduling circulation desk personnel and ensures administrative details are completed.

  • Monitors and orders supplies for bindery services and assists with requisitions.

  • Prepares various reports, to include but not limited to bindery operations and student schedules.  Makes copies and assembles materials.

  • Opens, routes, and prepares incoming loose-leaf filings.  may run errands for the department.

  • Performs related duties as assigned to successfully fulfill the function of the position. 

Required Education:   High School diploma or GED, AND: 



  • 12 months office, clerical or administrative support experience


Skills:



  • Basic computer skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office

  • General office skills such as multi-line phone, copying, filing, faxing, and mail

  • Customer service


Advertised Physical Requirements:



  • Must be able to lift 40-50 pounds. Must be able to push heavy book carts. Must be able to stoop, reach above head, and climb step stool.

  • Must be able to communicate, engage in repetitive motions, and stand.


Departmental Preferences:



  • 24 months library circulation experience

  • Law Library experience

  • Experience working with the public

  • Some college hours preferred
