Basic Job Functions:



The role of the Surface Inspection Lead is an integral part of the Technical Service team responsible for working with the Automated Surface Inspection Systems (AISI) throughout the Mill to create and support solutions in the areas of safety, profitability, and teammate development. This position is actively involved in the implementation, development, and improvement of the AISI for the Caster, Hot Mill, and Cold Mill to support the decision making of our operation team on the disposition of the semi-finished and finish products. Develop the maintenance plan and make sure it is being executed accordingly to obtain high availably (uptime). Strives for continuous improvement and supports the production team. As a technical resource, this individual will be directly involved with developing the specific training and communications required to expand the knowledge of our team, and our partners on the subject matter.



Nucor Steel West Virginiais Nucor's new sheet mill with advanced steel making capabilities and lower carbon emissions.This is a greenfield project, which is estimated to be fully operational after two years of construction.The new steel mill will employ 800 full-time teammates producing up to 3 million tons per year at one of the most technologically advanced sheet mills and is locatedin the heart of the Appalachian Mountains in close proximity to both Huntington and Charleston, WV.


Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.




Minimum Qualifications:



• BS degree in Metallurgy, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Process Automation or Equivalent.


• Experience with database usage, SQL server, coding (i.e.: Python), familiar with Machine Learning (CNN).




Preferred Qualifications:



• Technical aptitude with the ability to gather, analyze and make data-driven decisions (SQL, Python, Power-BI, IBA, etc.).


• Hardware/software technical understanding, interfaces, network systems.


• Experience in use of Automated Surface Inspection Systems in materials manufacturing.


• Demonstrates interest in the business and is focused on reducing costs, improve quality and/or improve efficiencies.
