Position Summary:

The Dental Hygiene Department at Prairie State College is seeking a Part-time Adjunct Supervising Dentist for the fall 2024 semester (8/19-12/12) with the possibility of future opportunities. A maximum assignment may be up to 12 contact hours for fall and spring semesters.


Essential Responsibilities:

The Dental Hygiene Department at Prairie State College is seeking a Part-time Adjunct Supervising Dentist for the fall 2024 semester (8/19-12/12) with the possibility of future opportunities. A maximum assignment may be up to 12 contact hours for fall and spring semesters. Adjunct Supervising Dentist teaching and clinical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:




  • Providing a clinical educational experience that reinforces the didactic classroom learning in a clinical setting that may include but is not limited to, Teaching/instruction in the description and identification of anatomical parts, oral lesions, periodontal conditions/diagnosis, radiographic findings, and other treatments as needed.






  • Provide supervision for faculty and students in the Dental Hygiene program clinical curriculum





  • Provide direct supervision for local anesthesia administration and/or administer local anesthesia.





  • Communicate with department staff, students, and faculty regularly.





  • Complete patient exams; including periodic, comprehensive, oral cancer screenings, and/or school exams for patients undergoing clinical treatment in the Dental Hygiene Clinic.





  • Prescribe radiographs for diagnostic purposes.





  • Prescribe preventive procedures and agents utilized in the dental hygiene process of care.





  • Provide clinical direction and assistance to students while exposing radiographs.





  • Grade radiographs exposed by students and provide education to students in identifying anatomical landmarks and/or pathological conditions seen on exposed radiographs.





  • Provide patient referrals for areas noted during the clinical exam and evaluation of radiographs.





  • Provide direct supervision for clinical Nitrous Oxide rotations.





  • Provide palliative care in case of minor dental issues including placement of temporary fillings or cementation of temporary crowns.





  • Assume responsibility for client management during medical emergencies in the dental hygiene clinic.





  • Weekly monitoring of emergency supplies and equipment.





  • Document findings, recommendations, examinations, diagnosis, treatment, and referral procedures.





  • Abide by and enforce safety rules when in a clinical setting.


Minimum Qualifications:



  • DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) or DMD (Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry or Doctor of Dental Medicine) degree from an accredited institution is required.






  • Current and active Illinois Dental License in good standing is required.





  • Five years of clinical work experience as a DDS/DMD





  • Current CPR card (American Heart Association).





  • Successfully pass a criminal background check, urine drug screen, and up-to-date healthcare immunizations.





  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite or Google Suite, digital radiographs, and Eaglesoft or other charting software.





  • Effective interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with students, faculty, staff and clients.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Ten years of clinical work experience as a DDS/DMD ●






  • Experience teaching/supervising for an Associate/Bachelor's degree Dental Hygiene Program.





  • Experience providing clinical instruction to a diverse group of students including traditional and non-traditional students.





  • Experience supervising patients under nitrous oxide sedation.





  • Experience using a learning management system (D2L) to complete clinical evaluations and input grades in clinical tracking software accurately.


Salary:

●Pay is per credit hour in accordance with the adjunct union contract, with an additional DDS stipend of $55/hr for an estimated hourly rate of $100.
