Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Deputy Director or other assigned administration, supervises and directs the activities of Bricklayers assigned to various projects. Schedules work, oversees supplies and materials inventories, and maintains necessary records. Reviews and inspects work as necessary for conformance to job specifications. Investigates delays, solves problems, and ensures timely completion of work. Inspects and maintains shop equipment. Ensures that safety procedures and other regulations and guidelines are followed. Minimum Qualifications


  • Currently employed with Cook County as a Bricklayer is required.
    • Five (5) years of full time work experience functioning as a Bricklayer is required.

    • Possession of a valid Driver's License is required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS


  • Thorough knowledge of state, local and other codes, regulations and guidelines pertinent to the wide range of skills and assignments typical of Bricklayer.
  • Ability to coordinate a Bricklayer crew and implement assigned projects.
  • Ability to supervise crew activities and review the work of other.
  • Ability to work well with co-workers, project managers, colleagues and trades personnel.
  • Ability to communicate objectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Ability to articulate these guidelines, explain them to other Bricklayers and ensure their enforcement.
  • Ability to keep and maintain accurate records and prepare reports as required.
  • Ability to perform manual labor of a physical nature. Ability to work in various seasonal weather conditions.
  • Repeated bending, squatting, stooping, prolonged standing and walking, and climbing ladders.
  • This position requires other types of physical exertion including, but not limited to climbing, lifting, pulling, pushing and moving moderate to heavy weight.
  • This position may require moderate to extensive travel to work assignments throughout Cook County, for which the employee must provide his or her own adequate means of transportation.

Medium Work

Medium Work involves exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently or an amount greater than negligible and up to 10 pounds constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
