The Director - Data Architecture is a key IT director position, charged with setting 5-year direction and execution for the company’s data architecture and network and IT prescriptive analytics strategy, all the while functionally leading near-term deliverables in multiple functional teams.
The architectural components include but are not limited to maximization and optimization of our existing systems as well as creating new systems to meet our data objectives. In addition, this position is responsible for creating and maintaining the vision and plan for extraction, transformation, and loading of data in support of data analytics across the company. Success in this position demands applying state-of-the-art practices in data architecture, database technology, and analytics project design for un-tapping key business decisions.
This position regularly interacts with business partners of other functional teams across the company, especially for purposes of leveraging, extending, and enriching the company’s data in ways that can be enjoyed by multiple decision-makers and analysts. As such, it requires that the underlying technology for the diverse data stores is managed with attention to not only accuracy, but also efficiency, security, performance, and long-term technological viability. This leader is also charged with building a cohesive, highly motivated, and collaborative team that brings network and IT expertise together for growing synergies across the disciplines this leader manages.
Responsibilities
Data Architecture: Provide leadership and set standards for data architecture and the IT management team to assist with defining the strategic database technology direction at TDS Telecom. Will be responsible for identifying and closing architectural gaps and for identifying/delivering the solutions that meet the business needs.
Database Administration: Develop and maintain the database architecture/infrastructure blueprint. Provide extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) functions for data warehouse. Produce executable transition plans for moving from the current state to the desired future state and lead the execution of these plans. Assure availability, performance, and security oversight of production databases and serve IT project delivery in the course of changes to the enterprise software and its underlying data stores. Assure Level 1 and Level 2 database reviews are done with rigor in accordance with good change management processes.
IP Policy Management: Provide directional and functional leadership to develop our systems and processes around IP policy management for residential and business customers. Primary focus for this team is to minimize customer impact for congested networks and set and enforce customer limits based on the defined broadband products.
GIS Records: Provide direction and functional leadership for all activities associated with storing, utilizing, and maximizing our geo-spatial records.
Machine Learning: Modeling and Forecasting Create and develop models for network utilization and customer usage based on real time information. Develop machine learning techniques to help drive significant data analysis support for all business units in TDS Telecom.
As a key IT Leader, and member of the CIO Team, contributes to the IT leadership team in assuring a cohesive body of processes data warehousing and data analytics, as well as assuring we have a culture that focuses on operational excellence, consistent with overall TDS Telecom mission and values.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree (or higher) -OR- 4+ years' professional work experience
10 + years work experience with increasing levels of responsibility in project leadership with a wide variety of project types
Proven ability to interact with business partners on complex technical issues
Other Qualifications
Masters in Business Administration degree highly desirable.
Proven ability to communicate complex issues effectively to varied audiences, among them senior executives. Must be able to distill complex information to its most salient points for key decision-makers.
Product Development and Management experience considered a plus
Proven ability to command high standards in delivering excellence in 24/7 production support, backed by measurement systems and instrumentation. This includes experience in averting crises and handling system emergencies.
Proven ability to establish a team culture that embraces and acts upon data privacy and security requirements.
Proven ability to realistically assess and manage database vendors and other technology vendors
Proven experience developing initiatives with concrete results.
Proven leadership ability, demonstrating coaching of network and IT professionals.
Proven ability to assess risks, develop risk management plans—both formal and informally—and to drive toward execution in the presence of imperfect information
Superior ability to analyze and forecast resource needs and to optimize those needs across many projects.
Proven ability to provide excellent judgment and leadership in crisis management situations.
Proven ability to effectively interact with peers to develop near-term and long-term strategies.
