Job Description Summary

The Manager, Philanthropic Boards and Individual Giving is responsible for implementing and overseeing all activities of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab's philanthropic boards as directed by the Chief Advancement Officer/President, Keystone Board. The Manager will work with the Chairs of the Boards and all Committees of the Boards to support the philanthropic and outreach goals on behalf of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. The Manager will work on development and execution of annual Board goals, committee activities and logistical support for board and committee meetings. Additionally, the Manager will also support the Advancement team in managing a portfolio of mid-level donors ($1-10K level) with a focus on stewarding, retaining and deepening their affinity and desire to support Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.


The Manager, Philanthropic Boards and Individual Giving will consistently demonstrate support of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab statement of Vision, Mission and Core Values by striving for excellence, contributing to the team efforts and showing respect and compassion for patients and their families, fellow employees, and all others with whom there is contact at or in the interest of the institute.

Job Description




The Manager, Philanthropic Boards and Individual Giving will:




Keystone & Associate Boards:



  • Maintains the integrity of Board related demographic and fundraising information in Raiser's Edge and manages all Raiser's Edge requests for reports/data.


  • Manages Board budgets and contributions to Shirley Ryan AbilityLab. Maintains operating expense budget for Associate Board.


  • Works with Chief Advancement Officer/President, Keystone Board on board and committee meetings and events.


  • Maintains Board content and event photos and collaborates with Marketing to promote on Shirley Ryan AbilityLab website and social media channels.


  • Provides ongoing assistance and direction to Board Presidents, Committee Chairs and Members.


  • Maintains accuracy of Board rosters and preferred recognition in all forms of communications.


  • Provides operational and leadership support for board-related events and special initiatives, including customized board engagements and volunteer opportunities.


  • Serve as a liaison to the Junior Board





Individual Giving:



  • Manage a portfolio of mid-level donors ($1K-$9.9K) with a focus on stewarding, retaining and upgrading annual supporters.


  • Collaborate with colleagues in Advancement to


    • Develop stewardship strategies and tactics for upgrading


    • Identify donors with capacity and interest in becoming more engaged


    • Assist with planned giving outreach, for those donors who qualify


    • Transition donors between other relationship managers as needed, when in the best interest of the donor.




  • Performs all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of Shirley Ryan AbilityLab





Reporting Relationships



  • Reports directly to the Chief Advancement Officer/President, Keystone Board.





Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required



  • Bachelor's degree in liberal arts, marketing or related field required.


  • Minimum of 3 years related experience, preferably in healthcare or non-profit sector, with excellent project management skills.


  • Must possess aptitude for problem solving that will allow manager to grow into a role requiring greater initiative and autonomy.


  • Strong computer skills, knowledge of hardware/software utilization, familiarity with Microsoft Office suite, Excel and Power Point. Strong knowledge of mail merges.


  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on a team and to build and maintain positive relationships with all levels of the organization.


  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in fast-paced, results-driven environment.


  • Excellent interpersonal skills, maturity, tactfulness, good judgment and ability to handle confidential information with discretion.


  • Must be highly detail oriented, possess strong organizational skills and work efficiently both independently and as a team.


  • Strong financial and analytical acumen.


  • Familiarity with social media.


  • Must be willing to work some evenings.


  • Must have exceptional written and oral communication skills and possess excellent proofreading skills.


  • Must have a strong sense of responsibility and superior interpersonal skills in order to appropriately represent the Boards.





Working Conditions



  • Hybrid office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
