Job Description:

The Vehicle Mechanic is responsible for vehicle annual safety inspection, and preventive maintenance servicing vehicles including but not limited to fuel levels, tire wear, lights, suspension, brakes, bushings, oil change, filters changes, sleeves and bushings, spark plugs, vehicles washing, battery inspection and other maintenance as needed.This position requires completion of an approved apprenticeship program in automotive repair; or a high school diploma and four years of appropriate experience. Appropriate vocational/ technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.The University of South Florida is a high-impact global research university dedicated to student success. • Performs routine engine maintenance such as checking fuel levels, tire wear, lights, suspension, brakes, bushings, oil change, oil filter, fuel filter, sleeves, spark plugs, wash, battery inspection, and other maintenance as needed.


• Performs Annual Safety Inspections that includes speed testing, steering, suspension, power break stops, headlight, brake light check, turn signals, horn, backup alarm functioning, tire wear at a safe level, windshield, battery load test and terminals, drums/discs condition, brake shoes/pads, leaks, and exhaust system, slow-moving vehicle triangle.


• Keeps records of inspections and services, test results, work performed, and parts used. Inventories equipment and parts annually.


• Picks up and drops off vehicles as needed using a tow dolly or by driving the vehicles from various locations on campus.


• Assist with other duties as assigned by the manager, Assistant Director and/or Director.
