Job Location: Sigma-Aldrich Co LLC, 6000 N. Teutonia Avenue, Milwaukee, WI 53209



Responsibilities:




  • Design and execute experiments with the objective of optimizing chemical processes in a flow setting;

  • Conduct work following Safety and Ergonomic policies established by the company and with the highest regard for quality;

  • Maintain accurate documentary records and write reports when necessary;

  • Transfer the developed process technology to qualification and/or production groups via established protocol;

  • Lead technical projects when necessary and act as a coach-mentor-expert to help junior staff to develop to their fullest potential;

  • Plan, build, and maintain continuous reactor systems;

  • Evaluate potential chemical syntheses to determine if they are amenable to continuous manufacturing;

  • Assess the costs associated with competing chemical processes to determine the feasibility of synthetic routes;

  • Present development outcomes to peers and customers; and

  • Develop new continuous manufacturing technologies to enable novel chemical processes.





  • Requirements:



    Employer requires a PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related life science field.


    In addition, the employer requires the following:



  • Demonstrated ability assembling, maintaining, and understanding mechanical parts for laboratory devices, including pumps, pipes, fittings, regulators, and gauges, gained through three (3) years of work experience or through completion of a related doctorate-level thesis;

  • Demonstrated understanding of chemical synthesis and safe chemical handling gained through three (3) years of work experience or through completion of a related doctorate-level thesis;

  • Demonstrated understanding of purification techniques, including crystallization, distillation, and chromatography, gained through three (3) years of work experience or through completion of a related doctorate-level thesis; and

  • Demonstrated understanding of chemical analysis (GC, mp, HPLC, IR, UV, NMR) gained through three (3) years of work experience or through completion of a related doctorate-level thesis.




  • All years of experience may be gained concurrently.


    In the alternative, the employer will accept a Master's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related life science field and three (3) years of work experience as a Chemist or related occupation. In addition, the employer requires the following:



  • Demonstrated ability assembling, maintaining, and understanding mechanical parts for laboratory devices, including pumps, pipes, fittings, regulators, and gauges, gained through three (3) years of work experience or through completion of a related doctorate-level thesis;

  • Demonstrated understanding of chemical synthesis and safe chemical handling gained through three (3) years of work experience or through completion of a related doctorate-level thesis;

  • Demonstrated understanding of purification techniques, including crystallization, distillation, and chromatography, gained through three (3) years of work experience or through completion of a related doctorate-level thesis; and
