Job Summary
Murphy Oil Corporation is looking for a Staff Geoscientist for the Eagle Ford Asset Team within the Global Subsurface organization. The successful candidate will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to enhance asset development and operations, utilizing core geoscience expertise in petroleum systems, stratigraphy, and basin studies. The Eagle Ford Geologist will play a crucial role in evaluating and developing Murphy acreage to maximize economic recovery.
The Staff Geoscientist will be involved in defining the scope and requirements of major projects, creating multiple effective and cost-efficient solutions for specialized technical opportunities, and drafting executive summaries or presentations on new issues. The role requires anticipating management's questions and responding effectively and strategically to their concerns. Additionally, this role may also provide oversight on small to medium-sized projects and develop a working knowledge of other functions to better approach new opportunities.
Interpersonal skills are essential for this position. The role entails effectively representing the team's work to management, cultivating coaching and mentoring abilities to support junior team members, and exemplifying professional and ethical conduct. Additionally, it requires expanding one's influence beyond the immediate team, engaging with other teams within the area, and extending reach across various regions.

The Staff Geoscientist will work in our Houston Corporate office and may work two (2) days a week remotely.
Responsibilities
Executing geological operations by communicating with geo-steerers, mudlogging vendors, rig personnel, and drilling personnel
Conducting well planning, including pre-spud, geo hazards identification and mitigation, correlation of offset drilling events and subsurface anomalies, establishing target window protocols, survey frequency protocols, and tool failure protocols
Assessing drilling and completions performance by integrating geological, geophysical, geochemical, and geomechanical characterization to understand performance drivers and ensure the repeatability of successful results
Planning, executing, and interpreting surveillance data acquisition, including the use of new technologies to maximize return on investment
Interpreting seismic and well logs, generating maps and cross sections, conducting risk and reserve/resource analyses
Generating optimal field development plans, including step outs, multiple landing targets, and economic justification for well spacing
Maintaining asset characterizations of hydrocarbon volumes and integrated recovery estimates
Collaborating with reservoir engineering for construction of simulation models
Utilizing thorough understanding of Texas land rules and regulations to inform and guide lateral length optimization efforts
Evaluating and integrating competitor activity and results
Identifying optimization opportunities to enhance reserves and production output
Presenting and making recommendations to management for buy in and support
Assisting in peer reviews and collaborating with other teams
Applying advanced professional knowledge and expertise in tasks requiring more discretion.
Showing proficiency and competency in a significant area, with a comprehensive understanding of related fields
Addressing diverse problems by evaluating recognizable factors through data analysis.
Providing direction and defining the scope for projects

Qualifications/Requirements
Masters in Geology or other geoscience discipline
Minimum 12 years' experience including operations, development, evaluation, well planning, detailed mapping, petrophysics, and play assessment, with minimum 5 years' experience in EagleFord (preferably)
Experience with geosteering and operations
Strong understanding of Texas land rules and regulations
Experience with operational well planning and execution
Strong verbal and written communication English skills
Ability to work multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
The individual is required to follow all applicable safety precautions. Work is performed almost entirely in a controlled (i.e., inside) environment and does not typically subject the incumbent to any hazardous/extreme elements; some positions may require regularly moving or transporting items weighing up to 25 lbs. around the office for various needs. The successful candidate must be able to complete all essential physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
