Job Description:

The Victim Advocate and Violence Prevention Coordinator position is housed within the USF Center for Victim Advocacy and Violence Prevention (CVAVP). CVAVP's mission is to foster a safe and supportive community through primary prevention programs, trauma-informed survivor empowerment, and compassionate, confidential services.

This dual-role position is based on the St. Petersburg campus and will serve as both an advocate and prevention coordinator:


  • Advocacy services include providing crisis intervention, assisting survivors in navigating reporting processes (e.g., law enforcement, Title IX, Student Conduct), and offering emotional support through an empowerment-based model.

  • Prevention initiatives involve developing, implementing, and evaluating campus-based violence prevention programs, strengthening partnerships with campus stakeholders, and expanding outreach efforts to underserved student populations.


While this position reports directly to the Director of the Center for Victim Advocacy & Violence Prevention at USF Tampa, daily supervision will be provided by the Assistant Director of Victim Advocacy and the Assistant Director of Violence Prevention.

This role is classified as Essential Personnel for USF, St. Petersburg, in matters related to health, wellness, and emergency response. The position includes an on-call component, with some evening and weekend hours required. Onboarding will take place on the Tampa campus, necessitating transportation to Tampa for approximately the first six weeks.MINIMUM: Each position in this classification requires specialized training at the Bachelor's or Master's degree level in Social Work, Public Health, Criminology, Psychology, Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies, or a related field relevant to the program's focus. Candidates with a Bachelor's degree must have a minimum of two years of relevant experience, while a Master's degree may substitute for this requirement. Certain program areas may require or prefer specific certifications or licensure based on the role's responsibilities.

PREFERRED: Master's degree in Social Work, Public Health, Criminology, Psychology, Women, Gender & Sexuality Studies, or a related field; and 1 - 3 years of work experience, with at least six months of experience in victim services or prevention education. This position will provide comprehensive support to students, faculty, and staff who have experienced crime, violence, or abuse, including intimate partner, sexual, and digital violence, harassment, and stalking. Services will be delivered through an empowerment-based, trauma-informed approach that prioritizes confidentiality and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Provide crisis intervention, education, referrals, and follow-up services, including assistance with Injunctions for Protection, accompaniment to hearings and legal proceedings, coordination with campus departments, academic support, and assistance on Title IX and Student Conduct & Ethical Development processes.

  • Conduct risk and lethality assessments, develop safety plans, identify survivor needs, and provide appropriate referrals and information to support their healing and decision-making.

  • Assist survivors in navigating reporting processes within the University and local law enforcement jurisdictions.

  • Stay informed on emerging research, best practices, and evolving standards in victim advocacy, trauma response, and related fields.

  • Maintain accurate and timely case documentation within Maxient (student case management system) while upholding confidentiality and ethical standards.

  • Maintain Victim Practitioner Designation credentials, ensuring adherence to professional standards in advocacy and support.

On-Call & After-Hours Expectations:

This position will participate in a rotating on-call schedule (shared across OneUSF advocates) to provide after-hours support for students experiencing urgent needs. This includes responding to victims in immediate crisis and providing accompaniment when reporting to University Law Enforcement across all three campuses during nights and weekends as needed. Virtual accompaniment is available, if necessary, for off-campus law enforcement reporting and forensic medical exams.

Due to the nature of on-call responsibilities, access to reliable transportation is required.

Additional expectations and time commitments will be outlined upon hire.

Violence Prevention

This position will play a key role in St. Petersburg campus-wide violence prevention efforts through education, outreach, and program development. Using a primary prevention framework, this role will empower students as active change-makers, helping to create a safer USF community. Programming will be tailored to address campus needs and enhance engagement.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Facilitate comprehensive trainings on sexual consent, healthy relationships, forms of violence, bystander intervention, and survivor support for both ongoing programming and invited presentations.

  • Develop, market, implement, and evaluate trauma-informed prevention programming initiatives, including trainings, tabling events, and awareness month campaigns.

  • Create and design educational resources, messaging campaigns, and digital marketing materials to support departmental initiatives and enhance outreach.

  • Collaborate to expand prevention efforts and build campus and community partnerships.

Administrative Tasks

This role involves managing administrative tasks such as securing room reservations, submitting event and purchase requests, tracking attendance and outreach data, and identifying budgetary needs while utilizing university systems, including Maxient, Archivum, and OASIS/Banner, for case documentation and program management. Responsibilities also include maintaining referral and educational resources, staying informed on Title IX, Student Conduct & Ethical Development, and Student Outreach & Support (SOS) policies, and ensuring compliance with legal and ethical record-keeping standards. Additionally, this position may represent the office on St. Petersburg campus committees.
