Fire Extinguisher Technician - Temporary at University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida

Job Description:

The Fire Safety Section (FSS) within USF's Environmental Health and Safety Department safeguards lives and property by maintaining and inspecting fire safety systems (alarms, sprinklers, extinguishers) to NFPA and Florida Fire Prevention Code standards. FSS also inspects and maintains emergency egress lighting and exit signs.Minimum Qualifications: This position requires a ninth grade education and six months of appropriate work experience. A valid Florida Driver's License may be required if motorized vehicles of any kind are operated.

Preferred Qualifications: Prefer prior experience with maintenance of fire extinguishers or knowledge of Fire Safety/Prevention, Florida Building and Electrical Codes.The University of South Florida is a high-impact global research university dedicated to student success. • Responsible for the monthly inspections and maintenance of fire extinguishers on USF Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Sarasota-Manatee campuses to maintain compliance with fire code requirements.


• Replaces and Installs missing or discharged fire extinguishers and extinguisher equipment. Assists fire extinguisher contractor with annual inspection, testing and maintenance of system extinguishers.


• Maintains and updates computer inventory of extinguishers and Inputs Inspection Information and daily activities in the computer database.


• Assists with fire safety training to include setup and use of fire extinguisher pit.


• Assists with conducting annual fire and emergency evacuation drills throughout USF campuses.
