Miller Pipeline is looking to add a Superintendent to our office in Chesterfield, VA. We are searching for qualified candidates to lead operations from start to finish while maintaining a productive and positive teamwork environment to
support the construction, installation and reconditioning of distribution pipelines.


Superintendent Main Responsibilities:
    • Focus on the safety and quality of the crew and worksite:
    • Perform regular safety and quality audits. Ensure workmanship conforms to quality specifications and safety rules are followed.
    • Discuss safety on a daily basis with crews.
    • Promote corporate safety and quality programs.
    • Attend and lead/teach daily huddles.
    • Attend, lead and/or teach monthly meetings.
    • Investigate incidents; assist with root cause analysis and corrective actions.
    • Be watchful for and take action on high-risk employees that may not adhere to the company's core values.
    • Ensure all new hires complete Smith Driving ride-along before starting field work.
    • Maintain regular interaction with safety, quality and compliance directors and managers; as well as SQC field specialists.
    • Improve safety, quality and productivity by encouraging continuous improvement of processes through elimination of waste.
    • Build and develop positive customer relationships. Maintain knowledge of current customer policies and procedures.
    • Investigate large potential projects for General Manager. Submit bids on smaller projects.
    • Monitor contracts daily to compare actual progress to targets; reconcile necessary gaps with foremen.
    • Monitor financial performance, such as job costs per contract.
    • Mentor, train, and teach foremen, especially in customer contracts, and handling and resolving customer complaints. Follow up with customers, as needed.
    • Study drawings and specifications to plan starting and completion times along with staffing requirements for each phase of construction.
    • Coordinate with regional fleet supervisors to ensure that tools, equipment and materials are delivered to the job site at specified times to conform to project schedule.
    • Schedule support services such as welders, trucks, drill crews, and subcontractors.
    • Communicate personnel needs to the HR department and/or upper management.
    • Schedule for delivery and timely return of rental equipment.
    • Advise foremen in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent delays and respond to emergencies.
    • Stay current on status of projects, estimated completion dates, and backlog.
    • Resolve daily construction problems and maximize crew efficiency and performance.
    • Build and maintain team unity. Mentor crew members.
    • Travel regularly across the region to plan and manage all work in the field.
    • Coordinate with Human Resources and take an active role in attracting and retaining safety-conscious, productive and engaged employees.

Required Qualifications:
  • 10+ years in underground pipeline industry; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • High level of personal integrity and accountability.
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record. CDL preferred.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Class A CDL preferred or ability to attain within 90 days.
  • Superintendent and/or foremen experience within pipeline construction, managing multiple project teams.
