Job Description
As a key member of the Student Financial Services (SFS) management team reporting to the Director of Student Financial Services, the Bursar is responsible for managing student billing, overseeing the collection of tuition and fees, maintaining accurate student account records, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and institutional guidelines.
Responsibilities
Manage and train support staff on daily office processes for student accounts.
Build and maintain adequate safeguards in the billing and collection of student fees.
Collaborate with the SFS Systems liaison to ensure that all Banner modules and processes related to accounts receivables are working effectively, including testing upgrades and implementing new functionality. Responsible for updating the student rate table in Banner each semester.
Oversee processes for the accurate distribution of federal tax statements.
Collaborate with other departments to implement and improve processes and procedures that increase service to students and strengthen administrative operations.
Counsel students and families on financing, payment options, holds, billing, and collections.
Assist the Director of SFS and Controller's Office with compliance, yearly audit, year-end close, and FISAP.
Manage the review of delinquent institutional loans, collaborate with outside agencies concerning account and loan placements. Serve as a liaison between the college and outside student accounts related vendors.
Work with the VP of Finance Office to assist in selecting the best options for student health insurance and tuition insurance.
Represent the College in professional organizations and at conferences.
Complete quarterly certifications of ledger account reconciliations related to Student Accounts. Produce reports and analyze student receivable data for the budget office.
Manage the Student Account's website to ensure the information is accurate and up to date.
Perform additional tasks to support the needs of the department
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience or any combination of education and experience.
Strong understanding of accounting principles and practices.
Proficiency in financial management software and data analysis.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with students, parents, and staff.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Working knowledge of various software, programs, and websites, including but not limited to Ellucian Banner, Flywire, TouchNet, WorkDay, ECSI, Tungsten Network for Veteran certifications, Gallagher Student Health and Special Risk.
Previous work experience in higher education.
Compensation
The starting annual base salary range is $69,000- $89,550.
